Adorama no longer has it listed as "Pre-Order".
Pentax SMCP-DA 50mm f/1.8 Standard Lens 22177

B&H has it listed as "In Stock"

Amazon probably only ordered two, this is a hard lens to love. No aperture ring, no distance scale, no DoF scale(obviously), no IR index (obviously), slower than the FA 50 1.4 or 1.7, only projects an APS-C image circle, I'm not sure why Pentax bothered especially at this price. If they had added weather sealing, that might have been something.

Just my speculation but maybe PRIC is thinking of coming out with a small lightweight entry level (i.e., inexpensive) DSLR?
The 35 and now the 50 are both very light weight and inexpensive (relative to pentax).

could be interesting (i have absolutely no inside knowledge just speculating)

Tons of people love the DA 35 F2.4

I don't think this is true. In fact, I think it was confirmed to cover the FF circle.

Your assurance is countered by testing in this thread:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/31629-da-lens-...ts-thread.html

Also, I was referring to the 50 1.8 - it has quite a large rear element, B&H lists it as FF compatible, and

http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1043959-1-1-1.html

Users have shot it on a MZ-3.

There are several threads here and on DPReview where folks have shot the DA35/2.4 on FF and its been fine. It is reported that it uses the FA35 optics with improved coatings so it's more optimize for digital with rear element coatings intended to decrease reflections onto the sensor, etc.

Maybe so, as i do not have a FF pentax body i am not able to test your hypothesis.
However, the back of the lens aperture looks awfully small to me..

It's not a hypothesis. Users have tested the DA 35 F2.4 on film bodies and it has performed as though it covers full frame.

Your answer implies that somehow a FF dSLR would be different in its treatment of the lens than a FF Film SLR, why would that be the case? Would the size of the sensor be different? Registry distance? What physical aspect would make the likelihood of the lens that works on a FF SLR be less likely to work on a FF dSLR?

I have the 35mm DA L F2.4 and i assure you that it's always mounted on a FF-film only. No vigneting, no flaws. Absolutely perfect.
