Now that the Nikon D60 is there, shall the whining diminish?

Yes I was very annoyed by the whining (or what I feel/felt was whining) with the K20/K200 introduction a couple days ago I prefered to stay away of it. But I wonder...

The D60 is out and a couple comments are needed IMO:
  • D60 has no LiveView (idem K200)
  • D60 has 10Mpix Sony sensor (idem K200) It of course explains why neither cameras provide LiveView
  • LetsGoDigital says the D60 boasts very good noise levels. I do not see why the K200D would not be able to compete.
  • D60 has "only" a 2.5" screen. K200 has a 2.7" one. Will people stop whining because no 3" screen?
  • On the price PoV I did not see a D60 introduction price. But the K200 supposedly so expensive at 800 euros (with 18-55 II) is competitve with 450D at 850 euros (with 18-55 IS)
  • Expanded Dynamic Range for the K200, not AFAIK for D60
  • There are also acouple other differences like sealing, grip. Nikon has iso3200 etc

So what now, are you all (I'm targetting the unhappy ones here) still going to complain ? Or maybe you just wanna complain whatever the reason?

Hooo yes there were quite a bit because "at that price that thing will never be able to compete with 450D/XSi" blablabla

There were quite hard comments agasint the K200D value or feature-performance/price.

Yeah, but if people are saying K20D has such "minimal improvement" that it should be called K10D Mk II or K10D Super....
then shouldn't we call D60 a D40x Mk 1.01 ?

There's one huge complaint about K200D. It will be pointed out by every reviewer and will drive away potentional buyers: K200D has only 4 JPEGs buffer.

Well, they must be aware how serious this is now, so all they have to do is wire in a bigger buffer in a K200D Super.

I am afraid they intentionally added that 4jpeg limit in the software. K200D specifications say that K200D has 4 jpeg/RAW buffer. Also specifications say that RAW file of K200D is 3.5 times larger than JPEG. It means that K200D has buffer of (at least) 4×3.5=14 jpegs and they simply disabled it...

Correct me if I am wrong in my thinking.

I thought the k10d had ddr2 memory? I wonder why the buffers are so small considering the dirt cheap cost of ddr2 memory. and also solid state memory

I just looked at the specs on dpreview--bleh. I'd much rather have a D40x for cheap--I can't really find anything new on this one.

K200D looks really upgrade of K100D.
Nikon need to call D60 - D40x super air-flow.

Weather sealing is still expensive...
D60 has Nikon "D-lighting", it is their way of "expanded dynamic range".
Oh, and D60 does not have in-body shake reduction - of course.

Nikon is celebrating its new leadership ala Canon. They have adopted the bad habits quite fast....

It has VR kit lens though.
In body stabilisation became not so outstanding feature when Canon and Nikon introduced cheap stabilized kit lenses, covering 18-200mm.

Where is the D60, to rival the 90D, the A700,theE3 ,CanonD40...............guess they are aiming at point and shooters moving up. Guess thats where the dollars are. Pentax has to create a niche and go from there. Expand on this niche. If its fashion like ben says ok.....if adventure like I see it ok........lets go on both fronts.

Nikon, for reasons only known to their marketing team, calls this feature "Active D-Lighting", and the D60 has it.

The D60 looks pretty good to me, especially with the addition of the kit lens with VR. Doesn't blow away the K200D, but the situation being what it is, Pentax will still have to beat them on price to sell very many.
