Pentax K-5 Officially Discontinued

Here's the news story; the Pentax K-5 has officially been discontinued:
Pentax K-5 Officially Discontinued - Pentax Camera News & Rumors - PentaxForums.com

Today is a sad day- I had otherwise hoped that maybe this time around, Pentax would keep its older bodies around for a little bit longer. If otherwise wanted to get a K-5, do your best to secure a copy while supplies last!

And hopefully it's successor is announced in September (or October) as hinted by some PR people.

To be expected. I think one mayor problem is still the capacity for manaufacturing more models at the same time. On the other hand selling left over stock and starting with production for a new model makes a fast marketintroduction for a new model possible.

I doubt Pentax are able to keep bodies in production long. Most likely the K5 line is adapted to make the new K5 or the K30.

Also the K5 and K30 are in each other water at the moment, it's in Pentax best interest to stop the K5 to get more K30 sold.

Besides more choices don't make you happier but more dissatisfied, you will start to question yourself if you the K30 would not have been better when you bought the K5 and vice versa.
So less products with clear differences is better and result to happier users.

This is excellent news. In a few months when the K5 is old and people get shot of theirs for the new model, used prices will plummet and I might be able to afford one...

Not really, I'm sticking with my K200D and film bodies.

Yes the K-30 is the only current (being manufactured) Pentax dslr. Still you can buy new K-5 cameras for a while. Maybe for a year or longer. Prices for the K-5 might even go up a little. It did for the K-7 after the K-5 was released. Still just selling old stock.

It is very likely that the K-5 replacement is now being or soon to be produced for the upcoming September release. The question is how much of a upgrade the K-5 replacement is going to be. Some rumors has the new camera being a K-5n with some updates from the K-30. These rumors also mention a tilting or swivel screen.

I really think the more exciting news will be at CP+ in January, which I still think is going to be a true pro-level APS-C camera.

Still good to see that the K-5 had a real long (for modern dslr cameras) manufacturing cycle. I am glad to own two of these excellent camera bodies.

I don't understand what you mean. I'm just saying that the K-30 is the only Pentax DSLR that isn't discontinued or some future rumored product. That's unusual because all the other DSLR companies have multiple bodies at once.

Haha, right, how could I forget? The 645D is so out of my reach that I don't even think of it as existing in the same world as me. :-)

Kind of sad really, the k-5 is the first "thing" in a long time that I felt was worthy of keeping around. Most cameras & stuff I've owned I was glad to get rid of when the new model was announced. I know it has had it share of detractors, but for me it has just worked. On a daily basis, image after image, it was a tool I could count on to do what I wanted.

I hope the replacement is as amazing as the k-5 was at announcement. But even if it is I will have to think long and hard about replacing the k-5.

The K5 was indeed one of the best models in years even with the AF mistakes but i don't "love" the camera like i did the K10D.

I'll keep the K10D and sell the K5 for sure when i get the next best thing.

Same here with K20D and K10D.
I like their sensors.
