K30 gets a lot of exposure in Popular Photography September

In 4 places:

1. Only slr on front cover.
2. Showcase section
3. Deals of the year
4. Lab section full review running 7 pages.

Wow!

Review is very positive. Could easily have been written by a dyed in the wool Pentaxian!

Pentax marketing looks great there, especially how they turned it "rugged" and "rain ready" in reviews.

I dont think Pentax Marketing (Isn't that an oxymoron) had much to do it. Pop Photo appear to be genuinely enthused about the K30. Its not like there are massive Pentax ads in the magazine.

Thanks for adding details. It certainly looks good for the K-30. The folks on the k-30 Tour were very positive about the K-30 sales figures!

I actually went to a local camera shop in melbourne CBD and they have the K-30 in the front window of two shops in the same street! Only got a photo of one but you get the idea!

Edit: Oh and I went into one of shops and chatted to the sales rep and he straight out said the pentax 18-55 WR was the best kit lenses on the market.

I don't say that Pentax are paying the magazine, I just say that the marketing tried to sell it as an adventure DSLR and succeeded. It's all about selling an image and style.

At least it's one of the most well built (along with the Sony NEX 18-55, but that one doesn't have WR). But IQ isn't really stellar IMHO. My 13 year old son has just started learning to use a DSLR, he uses my old K10D with the 18-55 WR that came with the K-5, and even he as a newbie started complaining about the IQ. But it probably started when he borrowed my DA35 Ltd Macro

I can't complain about the IQ.

It's pretty sharp and very good for the price, look at Canon's brutal (self-destructing) lens for something to complain about.

I didn't want to sound too negative, after all I think the IQ is fine for a kit lens. Btw. my favorite shot with that lens so far also was a portrait @55mm.

You know, I like for the front cover they didn't show it with the standard DAL kit lens.
