See what the Canon (err... misc brand) got?

"Recommended (with reservations)"

Now it's their turn to be eaten alive but not with 1 word, with 2 words!

That's one seriously nice tool they are using to present the permutations of the test results. Took a few minutes for me to notice the sliders on the bottom that allows for any combo of focal length to aperture (that was tested) and displays the test results graphically; and you can watch the graph 'move'.

As long as the values are reliable from being tested accurately, DPReview's come up with a winner there!!! They're going to be inundated by "can you test suchandsuch lens please" e-mail requests I bet...

Hehe, I love the kit lens review. "Other manufacturers, please take notes"

I think this is a segment where Pentax will really be able to prove its value on dpreview. I mean, considering any DA lens, can you give 1 example of a bad lens?

Even older lenses, with the exception of some FA-J's and some Takumar bayonet lenses, I think the entire Pentax-made lens line-up is pretty impressive!

...and they haven't even started with the limiteds yet

Haven't heard the 16-45 is discontinued. Lens testing looks good. Will have to read some to see how it relates to real world experience.
thanks

Until version II of the 18-55 is out and only one on the market, I'd say the original isn't discontinued either.

And I'm glad to see they've tested it because it'll be interesting to compare.

I still think dpreview are slightly biased. The Canon kit lens better than the 17-85? Not by a longshot.

I have to admit, that even they admitted, and someting we all have known for a long time, is that the Kit Lens is probably the best Kit lens around at the moment

Can you explain how you think that's biased, and for that matter, what bias you think it indicates?

They were testing the NEW canon kit lens with IS, not the old one. The old one was bad, this new was rumored to be good optically, and from the test it seems it is.

I really don't understand. You read the reviews, not just the recommendation, right? Even at that, I don't know where you got this idea.

"The EF-S 17-85mm is a major step up from Canon’s EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 II kit lens, adding an extended focal length range, image stabilisation, fast and silent autofocus with a decent manual focus option, and substantially improved build quality."

Really nice reviews of the two Pentax lenses. Looking forward to their take on the new DA* lenses

EDIT: Ooops... I see now. That statement I quoted doesn't compare it to the IS version, but version II. However, I think you may be confusing the recommendation for a kit lens as compared with the reserved recommendation for a lens in a higher quality range. Not really apples to apples.
