Animation/HDTV video feature on K20D!

When I read the press release of Nikon D60 at DPR, they mention about this:
"...Creative features include the automated creation of stop-motion animation files from a sequence of images", here is the link:
Nikon announces D60: Digital Photography Review

And I recall that K20D has this 21fps at 1.6MP feature as well which means we probably will be able to take video with it. And with 1.6Mp that is similar to an HDTV 1080p quality.
I guess that will be a software that comes with it that will enable to combine all of this small frames into one HDTV quality video.

So for people who think that this feature is not usable, I think we should see it as a video capture capability. Just the same feature with our P&S camera that can take video. The difference is usually in our P&S spec, this feature is listed as : video frame 15 fps @ 640x860

Just a guess since we haven't seen the final release yet.
But if it's true than soon we will see the more new DSLR in the future will have this video capture ability plus voice.

You do realise you'd get about 5.4 seconds of video

Actually 1080p is more like 2.1mpix... but it has 30fps not 20.
And without sound it's not really a video... I am not bashing I am just thinking this feature has not been intended to be used that way.

Hmm, I'm not sure how you come up with 5.4 sec.
As long as it's limited by card size, it could go longer than that.

"Actually 1080p is more like 2.1mpix... but it has 30fps not 20."
I think it might be not 1080p but more to 768p (1920x768 = 1.5mp)

Well, anyway it's just my guess. I'm sure it will be useful once we know the final release.

1080p is 1920*1080=2.073.600

this is not true HD...at least not at 21 fps .... and not at 3:2 ratio.

but the only thing I don't like about this mode, is the antialiasing, I've recently seen some full images from this mode, and the AA and image details seemed a little poor, it didn't look resampled from ~4000pixels to ~1500pixels , it looks like the image is taken using only the third of the pixels or maybe is taken using a "virtual" big pixel that is made up from 9 smaller ones. Or all this may be the result of poor jpg compression (I understand in this mode is only available a medium jpg compression)

But is to early to tell, maybe it was because of the beta firmware, remains to be seen.

Where are you finding this magical 1920x768 screen? Last I checked, current 720p is 1366x768

I think the reason for the strange 20fps burst mode is quite simple:

Pentax could not get contrast detecting autofocus working in time for the K20d release.

Think about it: who would want a video camera that can't auto-focus? Not me. Samsung certainly has the technology to take a live-view feed off a camera and turn it into H.264 video. The 20fps burst mode of the K20d proves the new sensor can deliver such a feed. It would be trivial to wire up the sensor to the Samsung video chip. So, what is missing? Why can't the K20d to true video? Answer: no autofocus.

Now it is anyone's guess as to whether video will be a feature of the K30d, or if Pentax will be kind enough to add it in by a firmware upgrade (which they could only do if the Samsung video compression chip is already built into the K20d). Probably the former. That would make everyone buy a new camera.
