It may use only the live view from the LCD. Like other compact camera today.

Horrible. Very disappointing. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a compact camera sensor, but the artifacts in that... If they released this as a sample of what they think is good, imagine how it will perform in real life situations.

I think that for a camera under $300 the results don't look all that bad.

looks good enough for a straight jpeg shot to me. I don't expect all that 16mp to be used much for printing anyway, maybe just for social networking sites and good-time photography. Worth the $280 I guess.

Not bad, if we have a look at picture in 30-50%. It's P&S camera, ultra-zoom with tiny sensor.

It's SONY RX100 - better, but...It's P&S compact camera

Some interesting "state of the industry" comments on evf's from Imaging Resource's overview of the X-5:

QuoteQuote:
The Pentax X-5 also offers an electronic viewfinder. That's not unique, by any means, but even in long-zoom cameras it's becoming less common. The X-5 is one of just three 26x zoom models announced so far this year with an EVF, along with two Fuji cameras; competitors from Kodak, Nikon, and Olympus all lack a finder. In fact, a quick look over the camera announcements we've covered this year suggests that of at least 30 cameras announced so far this year with more than a 20x optical zoom, almost two thirds had no viewfinder. In terms of resolution, the Pentax X-5's electronic viewfinder sits near the entry level, with a dot count (230k dots) similar to that of Fujifilm's FinePix S4300, and far below the 1,440,000 dots of the Fuji X-S1. That's to be expected when one considers their respective pricing, though.
The X-S1 has a current street price of $600 new.

Official samples are frequently very bad. Real life photos are often much better than what the press releases show so refrain from judging the
results until real users submit photos.

This shot is at the long end off the zoom and with open aperture at f5.9 allready into the limits of the tiny sensor. I think for that it is a great shot.

Then get the Panasonic GH2 with 1,530,000-dot EVF and swing out touch screen LCD.

But then the point (if there ever was one, but The People seems to think so) of buying a "bridge" camera would disappear - or is there a compact 11-290 mm zoom for m43?

and no superzoom lens for it.

People, the point of a superzoom is to be everything in one small compactish camera (and this is compact comparatively) the client for these things is as follow
1. LIMITED BUDGET
2. WANTS IT ALL
3. SEE # !
