It never will be 400mm/f4! The frontlens is never big enough to catch the fotons. .

Wouldn't a 400/4 and a 560/5.6 have the same front lens diametre?

400mm f/4 or 560mm f/5.6 require the same front lens, with a diameter greater than 100mm.

I could be wrong, but I think the last (shortest) of the three lens photos was photoshopped by a member.
Yup, just some photoshop speculation on my part.

I think it's going to collapse down to an 85mm f/0.85

Well it could be collapsable or it could be a dual focal length lens. A 400mm f4 or a 560mm f5.6.

And what are the two switches on the side of the lens. It could be an SDM lens in which case one switch is the AF/MF switch but what could the other switch be for?

Regards

Chris
Perhaps to limit focus travel, like in a macro lens - just a guess. Maybe its to switch between SDM drive and DC drive

I doubt the mock-ups don't reflect the real thing. If so, they wouldn't have shown it...
The CP+ rep said that this was a very, very early mockup (there was no glass in it either), but I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Yes, probably

Yes probably.

But the tube gets thinner end thus giving less light.

Those mockups were not real. If so, Pentax could have released the lens by now .
Well, they had working prototypes of the DA* 1.4x TC and some members even used on at the show. However, it has never hit the market.

A recently filed Pentax patent makes this highly likely and explains the photo below. The english is badly translated but the meaning is clear.

"Pentax applied for a patent about a division-type lens body tube. It is hard to carry the super tele-photo lens, but it will be easy to carry it if degradable.

. . .
Since Pentax now holds the Patent on the degradable lens, 1) does this mean companies with crap lenses have to pay royalties; and 2) does this patent retroactively cover the SDM.
