Not Pentax, but SWEET!

Finally, the Sigma DP1 will be on the market, apparently, supposedly...

how would you put an optical viewfinder in there in the first place?

unless you want the stone age optical viewfinder... which is just a hole in the camera

I was keen on this too, then noticed it's just a 'prime' lens. Very surprising; are there any other 'decent' compacts with only one focal length? (other then camera phones & the such, i.e. other 'very budget' digital camera) Still considering it tho.

It will have an accessory viewfinder, but yeah, that annoyed me too. Just think of it like an old Leica...but not.

Sure, I've got a Rollei 35, an Olympus RC, a Canonet 28...

Oh, you mean digital?

Yes. Just like my old Nikon CP800, if need be. Doesn't have to be EVF or through-the-lens. The choice to not use the LCD on the back should still be there.

There's just something fundamentally wrong about taking pictures at arms length. IMHO.

...well..the picture looks funny and the front side does not match the back side:
- DP1 claim a fixed lens of 28mm eqv. Nice move, but the back control has (W-T) for zoom? is it just for playback review?
- No built in flash, but there's flash control button?
This camera is a good idea. i hope the execution is as good as the idea is. Time will tell.

That's a market segment I wish was still around: the upscale prime P&S. Stuff like the Nikon 35ti or 28ti, or the Yashica T4, or the Ricoh GR1, or the Konica Hexar, etc... Fine, FINE cameras. Fine tools.

I'm looking forward to the DP1, but I have to say I have trepidations on the output of its sensor (I've not been enamored with DP9 or DP14 shots). Also, the lens being F4 really turns me off. All those things that I mention above have faster lenses. The T4 is the slowest of the bunch with an f3.5, the Konica Hexar has an F2 lens.

It looks interesting, but unless they can sell it at under $500 I just can't imagine it succeeding.

i agree, if they are just taking the SD14's sensor and shoving it in here, component costs should be pretty low, and if they are smart they will sell this for 300 or less.

a 40mm FOV and SLR quality image in a pocket is awesome no matter how you spin it.

really good for spy work for taking pictures in places where you cant take pictures and actually get a worthy shot... hehehe
