I certainly wouldnt mind if Pentax came out with a FF, of course its desirable. The general consensus is Pentax dont have the budget to pursue it right now, thats understandable given their existance depends on the sale of 2 items now. I think its great that Sony have made the move, prices wont come down till more competition enters the market and FF will only become a popular format when it becomes affordable. Until then, Pentax wont lose any sleep over Sony's move, in fact, i think it works for them. It buys them time.
They could stay with the money and try and rake in as much as they can before the dslr consumer numbers peak. Then its simply a matter of offering your existing consumer base an upgrade path when the time is right, with the occasional DFa lens coming into market between now and then (im guessing a cushion of around 3-5 years before prices are competitive enough to replace aps-c). FF flops and the market is not as embracing? All good, minimal loss, our lenses will still sell. FF takes off? cool, we have the lenses to support it, lets get a body out.
