Rumor: Sigma to release fast prime lenses | Photo Rumors

The rumor keeps surfacing. Sigma plans on filling out it "professional" line of prime lenses with a 24mm F/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, and 135mm f/2.0. All full frame glass.

Probably they're scared of Samyangs

As well they should be. Those lenses are (mostly) great bargains.

I just hope Samyang doesn't drop K mount like Zeiss and Voigtlander.

I just want a D-FA* 135mm F/1.8.
So would I. The Sony Zeiss version is one of the nicest lenses I've ever tried. I wouldn't expect a Sigma 135/2 to be anywhere close to it - in fact, probably only slightly better than the FA135/2.8, and noticeably inferior to the Canon 135/2.

Sure, but the other DA* zooms are all constant aperture, so I would be very surprised if they do that.
I agree - a variable aperture * lens would be hard to stomach. Rarely have I been pleased with a variable aperture lens either. Some f/3.5-4.5 lenses come close - for example, it's acceptable in the DA10-17. And I like my FA28-105/3.2-4.5 for other reasons, but I'm still not crazy about the aperture.

I also cant see Pentax ever releasing a $4k body camera (that isnt MF).
This sounds like a misunderstanding. The $4000+ I mentioned was the total cost for the body and a couple of high quality lenses, not the body alone (although in retrospect, I probably should have said $3000+, since Nikon (and even Canon and Sony) may be bringing the cost of FF down, starting this month).

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm having trouble imagining many of us currently have everything we need in FF. For example, I'm invested in the DA15, DA*16-50, and DA*50-135. I realized I had to if I wanted to get higher quality now. So for a couple of years now I've been able to use a very good lens plus 2 truly exceptional ones. When a FF comes out I'll be missing my 2 fast zooms - others may find they're missing something else. After we shell out for the camera, most of us will realize we suddenly need at least one new lens. And we'll get it, reasoning that without it our substantial camera investment will go underutilized. Besides, even if we were covered, Pentax will show us one or two new lenses that are simply better than the old alternatives, and we'll (understandably) want to get one.

Exactly - It would be worth getting a Sony body just to use it. But I would have given up too much of my Pentax kit to do it. Sony has a few other lenses that are nearly as impressive as well. Alas, like Canon and Nikon, each costs around $2000.

If the K3 has a 100% 1x magnification viewfinder, does it mean that it is much bigger than the K5's and close to the D800? I am very poor at understanding viewfinder sizes unfortunately...

I find MF on the K5 to be quite a pain, though I am pretty sure swapping out for an EE-S screen would make things much better.

There's no reason why a variable aperture zoom can't be just as good as a fixed aperture zoom. If the proposed DA* 16-85 is sharp corner to corner throughout it's zoom range at f8 and has similar color rendition to the other DA* zooms, I'll give it a serious look, regardless of fixed or variable aperture. I've owned some fairly capable constant aperture zoom lenses, such as the DA 12-24/4; but the best zoom lens I've ever used is the FA 24-90/3.5-4.5.

IF the "9 announcements" thing is correct, the thing we DON'T know is if some of these products will be announced together (counting as just 1 announcement).
For example: It appears that "for real" right now are:

New Q
Q 15-45mm f2.8 zoom
(anticipating the Genuine Q K-mount adapter and HOPING for an 07 wide prime for the Q)
All of the above could be in one Q-related announcement.

560mm
18-270mm (rebadged Tamron? yawn)
90mm macro for the 645 (could also be announced together with the expected 645Dii

If combined, that leaves 5 more announcements.
If not combined...

Remaining credibility? Are you suggesting that he ever had any?

The aperture of your zoom won't be changed. You can use your DA* in APS-C mode.

WRT an 18-270 at $500: should be $400+ to allow for third party three-year warranty if it's using the Pentax bog-standard SDM.
