In theory, perhaps this is true. But in my world, the theory works like this:
"I want to get the best value, and not spend any more than I have to. So I'll get the variable aperture."
Then I get it, and I find it doesn't perform as well as a fixed-aperture lens. So I say to myself "Dang - I really
do have to spend more money for better quality!"
I could tell myself it's just as good, but it really isn't. So then I have to decide whether it's worth making that compromise in order to save the money.
