Information on the originating site, in Japanese, is essentially what we have here. Comments in Japan seem to mirror those posted here.

Because of 5.6 crop.

That's the beauty of interchangeable lens cameras: if you want to (significantly) modify the sensor's size, you have to design new lenses as well.

Because changing the sensor size would mean all lenses change their field-of-view, which is pretty confusing to potential customers. For instance, the standard 01 would become a moderate wide, but it still reads standard 01 on the housing. Surely you remember the confusion surrounding focal lengths on what people called analog vs digital lenses? You don't want that repeated.

Small sensor again...?
Get the K-01 if you want an APS-C sensor to use with the 25 million K-mount lenses without an adapter. I like the Q because it has a 5.5x crop with my FF K-mount lenses and low cost high speed C-mount lenses.

Pentax seems to be rolling out something it is calling "simplified WR", whatever that means, on several new items so it may be a feature on the Q10 too.

Bigger sensor is not as urgent as connectivity at this point. I think, the japanese youngsters that buy into the q system would want to post pics they take as quickly as possible. The galaxy camera is the biggest threat to the q right now.

I might actually buy a new Q if it is somewhat weather resistant. The thought of putting a K-mount tele on it is tempting.

This is terrific news for those of us who "get" the Q (or in my case NOW get it). Up until a few weeks ago, I could not get past the "small sensor" either. Now I see the Q as an indispensable accessory (I also own a K-5 and bought an *istD recently to convert to infrared).

It is a camera that I can have on me AT ALL TIMES. This is why cargo pants pockets were invented.

A small sensor GIVES you some things that larger sensors don't: larger depth of field (nice for "from the hip" street shooting and especially macro) and on the other end it gives you super telephoto with an adapter and the lenses you already have. Every Q owner should have an adapter and a 100mm Macro which gives you great macro working distance and an effective 560mm telephoto on the other end.

It doesn't just have a small sensor. It has a backlit Sony Exmor-R sensor. The image quality WILL surprise you.

It is pure unadulterated FUN.

Complaining about the Q because of its sensor size is like saying that one of the "cons" of the new 560mm lens is that it is large and doesn't do wide angle. Once you start thinking about the Q as an accessory (and not an argument to replace your larger sensor systems) and then you actually give it a TRY, you will realize what you have been missing also. It would also be a powerful system to give to a child that you would like to discover the love of interchangeable lens cameras without breaking the bank.

The best news about this announcement is that lens development and production for the Q should also still be continuing, and not abandoned - as some have feared.

I expect this to have the Ricoh focus peaking feature which would help when using full size lenses on it. If Pentax wants EXISTING Q owners to have more reason to buy full size Pentax lenses for their Q, then they should give the original Q focus peaking with a firmware update, too. And expect another of the new announcements to be the K to Q adapter they showed at CPP+.

A lot of us are also hoping for a fast high quality wide angle Q lens announcement. A 4.3mm f1.7 would be awesome.

+1. I'm really curious to see try the Q with a longer lens. The IQ could be much much better than a heavy crop....

If the information on digicame-info is correct, the real news is that the street price is going to be about half of what the original Q was, and about what the Q is selling for now, a year after release. I wonder if this is a replacement for the Q or a new low-end model. Whichever it is, it certainly has a lot of features for the price. It still has the hot shoe, all the dials and SR. It also looks like it is more deliberately designed to look like the Auto 110 than the first Q.

It's interesting that that site reported Rice High's rumours yesterday and since the Q10 wasn't included, the commenters on that site are now wondering whether they should believe anything he says. Also, the mention of the newly announced Sony 1/1.7 inch sensor is nothing more than the commenter's hope.
