If the information on digicame-info is correct, the real news is that the street price is going to be about half of what the original Q was, and about what the Q is selling for now, a year after release. I wonder if this is a replacement for the Q or a new low-end model. Whichever it is, it certainly has a lot of features for the price. It still has the hot shoe, all the dials and SR. It also looks like it is more deliberately designed to look like the Auto 110 than the first Q.

It's interesting that that site reported Rice High's rumours yesterday and since the Q10 wasn't included, the commenters on that site are now wondering whether they should believe anything he says. Also, the mention of the newly announced Sony 1/1.7 inch sensor is nothing more than the commenter's hope.
The Q is developed by a whole different bunch at Pentax. You know RiceHigh, he doesn't care for compact cameras, he's only asking for FF. So I guess that's what he gets, DSLR related info...

You get what you ask for.

I have a sneaking hunch that one of the other announcements now will be the "real" (as in Genuine Pentax) K-mount adapter for the Q. It is *possible* that it will only work with the NEW Q. That would explain also why it was shown at CPP+ but not released until the new Q was announced (or rather "will be").

Why on Earth would the disenfranchise all the current Q owners by making only for the Q10?

This is pure speculation on my part, but it ( IF the adapter only works on the New Q) would be due to technical limitations of the original Q that the New Q addresses.
The Genuine Adapter can only HOPE to be worth the money if it provides more functionality than the cheap Chinese adapters already on the market. That means communicating with the lenses (particularly the current crop of Pentax lenses, which is what Pentax wants/needs to sell). If nothing else, so that the Shake Reduction can automatically pick up on the focal length, for example. That would be a great asset. But such an adapter may make additional energy demands (guessing here) and the original Q could not take that unless you want to be changing batteries every 35 shots or so. I expect that one of the improvements of the New Q will be in energy consumption (or capacity).

re: genuine K adapter

When the Pentax K to Q adapter was shown, it had NO electrical contacts. It did have a ring to open and close the aperture of DA lenses.

My disappointment with these pictures is that there is no built in EVF or a connector for an external EVF.

The new Q would be acceptable without a built in EVF or external EVF if the LCD would be visible in bright light. The Sony RX100 has a screen setting to allow the screen to be seen in bright light (I tried it last week at noon outside of the Houston Camera Exchange and it works... EVF is still better...)

The other necessary upgrade would be for the sensor based vibration reduction to be active with an adapted lens. This would of course require the input of the lens focal length. Currently the vibration reduction only works with Pentax lenses that electrically communicate with the Q (ie: the 01 and 02).

The Pentax adapter had an integrated shutter without any communication with the body?

Not sure if I like the look of it. The current Q looks more elegant.

RH got it totally wrong - as usual.

The difference between 1" sensor and 1/1.6 or 1/2.3 is much larger than that.

Looks more rugged in black and the new design.

Lets wait and see what new features it will have.
Being cheaper is already a very big plus point since what I've observed with the initial Q was that many folk were interested but put off with the price.

If this thing has focus peaking I'm in, my sonnetar would work wonderfully with it, if not I'll stick to my current Q...
