well... not that I know a lot, but as far as some sources we have in our local community say, yup it's recent. As like, early 2012. So the guess that the new body just can't be completed for revelation at Photokina makes a lot of sense.

However, there wasn't enough insider info getting out to let us get wind of what's going on inside the Pentax warehouses, lol. Maybe they hire ninjas to guard the place. It's so... info-tight.

So why is Ned Bunnell resigning?
Interesting...I heard the same rumors in the 2nd quarter of 2012 after everyone jumped on the FF band wagon. The news I read from a chinese website stated that Pentax management was changing directions with the sensors. Reason wasn't given, but the assumption from the text was that it was moving from APS-C to FF or they didn't like the 24 MP sensor. Before anyone get's carried away with another FF rumor, this was off a chinese website and I don't read chinese so I don't even know if I was reading it correctlly.

Can't wait. Will be nice to see what they did with the II as well.
I'm also interested to see what happens with video. Removing moire from video doesn't sound like an easy task.

True. I don't use the video functions myself, but can see how that will impact others' use. I'm wondering if they found a way to remove it on-the-fly, or if it will have to be a post process like with photos.

I guess the assumption is correct, looking for something else than the 24 Mp sensor. Probably looking at can they get away with the 16Mp sensor in a new K-3

D600 is 15 mm taller than K5, no shake reduction, no AF fine-adjust, costs $2000
K5II keeps a height just less than 100 mm and costs significantly less.

Assuming that the new K5 can live up to the promises, APS-C is alive, but would do well with a dedicated large aperture wide angle lens. I will keep my FA31 for a FF Pentax still assuming that Pentax must announce a FF camera within the next couple months. The Nikon package is very tempting these days and they offer two very nice, new design wide angle lenses with the 1.4/35 and the 1.8/28 - with no match around in Pentax land.

I think the K5 II/s were rushed through development only after Pentax couldn't deliver a K3 per their original plans. They got the AF module working but couldn't finish the rest of the camera - ran out of money or sensor not good enough or not available from vendor or??
This is a little too early. Please wait until the day before Photokina. Two years ago (PK 2010) Pentax announced the K-r a few weeks before PK and the K-5 just the day before the start of Photokina. So a K-3 could still happen.

I do find it strange that after 2 years, the K-5 refresh was smaller than expected.
Shiny New Thing addiction makes us want things that are "revolutionary" even if they're less functional. That's why Sony is probably going to sell more of it fixed lens FF camera than the a99. That's why some complain about the new iPhone 5 despite its many incremental improvements.

If Pentax don't change the K-5 body and the only difference between the K-5II and the K-3 is literally the sensor then I don't think there's any reason why they wouldn't have enough time to produce that camera before the end of the year. But I don't expect the K-3 to be like this though

Plus I doubt that Hoya would have closed down all R&D work before the sale because that would make Pentax significantly less attractive to buy - a totally static company isn't appealing. Also didn't Ricoh have meetings with Hoya like 8 months before the sale was formerly announced - or am I making that up?

D600 does have AF fine adjust, it seems DPR stuffed up in their summary.

You're right. The goodies are saved for the show proper. Provided that there are any goodies...
