Oh yawn. So much debate over so little.
How many times in the last week have you complained about people complaining on the internet?

And the DA560 seems to have SMC in the ads but some say the lens is marked HD. Just chaos IMHO.
Pentax Imaging did get HD on the DA 560 though. It doesn't mean they got it right on the super zoom either. They screwed up on the DA 35/2.4 AL when it came out calling it a DA-L 35/2.4.

AS it turns out, it isn't Aero Bright, its "not quite as good as Aero Bright" as per Pentax.

In the Press Release for the DA 645 25mm, Aero Bright is described thus:

The key to this possibly lies in the reference to nanotechnology. Nano coatings are referred to in this article: What does a 'nano crystal coat' do on this lens? - Photography, which details the difference between multi-coating and nanocoating, even though the specific lens referred to was a Nikon one.

Don't know about ghostless coating, although from the name that could apply to either multi or nano-coating. On the surface of it (no pun intended) the acronym "HD" is, I agree, an undistinguished term to apply to a lens coating, unless it stands for something that none of us has seriously worked out, yet.
Aero Bright is described here:

United States Patent: 8199404

and HD is described here:

United States Patent: 8231966

The first one looks more like the SMC Coating and the second one Aero Bright

Yes it may look like, but this one was filed in 2008 while SMC is much, much older, I believe.

The term "SMC" is much older, true. However, Pentax has had to file new patients for "SMC" every few years because of updates to the process.

As Docrwm pointed out, they have updated the formula and patent several times since the release of the first S-M-C Tak. Plus, that first one doesn't seem to be a nano technology.

OK !! It doesn't seem to be a nano technology:

" ... the first layer 11 has an optical thickness of 37.5-112.5 nm,
the second layer 12 has a refractive index of 1.95-2.25 and an optical thickness of 35.5-60.0 nm,
the third layer 13 has a refractive index of 1.35-1.50 and an optical thickness of 24.5-41.5 nm,
the fourth layer 14 has a refractive index of 1.95-2.25 and an optical thickness of 210.5-250.0 nm,
the fifth layer 15 has a refractive index of 1.35-1.50 and an optical thickness of 12.5-32.5 nm,
the sixth layer 16 has a refractive index of 1.95-2.25 and an optical thickness of 27.5-45.0 nm, and
the seventh layer 17 has an optical thickness of 108.0-138.0 nm,

wherein the optical thickness=refractive index.times.physical thickness.

"... The organically modified silica preferably has a particle size of 200 nm or less in the dispersion. ..."
