HD is the new replacement for SMC

Source : ?????????????????????? - ????info
Google Translate results in this for the above link:

Summary and additional information about the new product for Pentax

From readers, we have to provide additional information about the new products to be announced in the near future Pentax. The following is a summary of the information so far.
  • K-5 II: AF unit-3EV SAFOX X corresponding to F2.8 brightness and low, the LCD monitor air gapless.
  • Low-pass-less version of K-5 II: K-5 IIs.
  • Order 20 colors are available grip + body 5 colors, color 97: PENTAX Q10.
  • Built-in mechanical shutter: Q for K-mount lens adapter.
  • (Through F2.8) ,15-45mm F2.8 telephoto zoom for Q: PENTAX-06 TELEPHOTO ZOOM.
  • high magnification zoom for K mount: 18-270mmF3.5-6.3 ED SDM smc PENTAX-DA.
  • Super telephoto lens for K mount: 560mmF5.6 ED AW HD PENTAX-DA. The newly developed HD coating, drip-proof dustproof.
  • Macro lens for 645: 90mmF2.8 ED AW SR HD PENTAX-D FA645 MACRO. HD coating of newly developed Aero Bright coating, image stabilization (SR).

It is the information from people you trust. As rumored Apparently, K-5 IIs looks like a low-pass-less version of K-5 II.

In addition, the Pentax seems to have developed a new HD coating alternative to SMC, with 90mm macro for the 645, the beginning of the name has been changed to HD lens from SMC and DA560mm.

In the future, whether it will become a "HD Pentax" from "SMC Pentax" familiar.
In addition, it is noted in the lens image stabilization is also being adopted in the 90mm macro.

Bah, HD, just because marketing thought that would appeal to people more.. I liked the name SMC better because it was unique to Pentax. Everything has HD in its name nowadays, especially low quality products..

If HD is the acronym for the Aero Bright coating it makes sense. Pentax used the Aero Bright on the DA* 55/1.4 But the name of the lens was SMC DA* 55mm f1.4 SDM. This sounds like more addition to the confusion of the coatings. It could be that the Aero Bright is in addition to the classic SMC.

It could be, but apparently the lenses are marked "HD" instead of "SMC".

makes it sound a little cheap to me. As Na Horuk said HD is on everything - and on lots of very cheap things trying to make themselves sound better. HD has very specific meanings none of which can be applied to a lens

Huh? It makes no sense: how do you get the acronym "HD" from Aero Bright"?

New type of coatings or new type of in lens motor?

1.-There was some talk in these forums about a new type of motor used by the new 560mm that was different from the SDM or DC models.
2.-If the names are correct, neither the 90mm nor the 560mm seem to include the SDM/DC acronyms, so HD might be that new motor (Hypersonic Drive?).

I didn't say HD = Aero Bright. I was referring to using an acronym to refer to SMC + Aero Bright. However, the HD would be a bad choice if that were the case and it is likely just a marketing ploy. They didn't use Aero Bright on the DA 35/2.4 or DA 50/1.8 which are newer lenses than the DA* 55 which did have Aero Bright.

You are probably on to some thing. So far Aero Bright Coatings have only been added to the more expensive lenses. At this point it is hard to figure out if the 560mm is a budget lens or what.

Are you guys really arguing about coating acronyms now? I mean, wow... we're talking photography tools here, not some stupid lifestyle trend. The function is what matters.

The name is indicative of the quality of the function. Not to mention it can indicate the direction of a brand. Of course, this is just an early rumor, so I am hoping that there is still info we are missing and things will get cleared up.
