Hm, so it does have the HD coating.

Dust proof and drip proof, with 29 seals. But not WR? I assume the drop-in filter makes that impossible?

I wonder how long before they raise the price on it and offer rebates?
It's sad that we even have to worry about this. In my opinion, Pentax is knocking the wind out of their own sails this Photokina by doubling down on their stupid pricing scheme. Actually, I hope they get flooded with questions about the price hikes at Photokina just so they feel the bad rep it's giving them and then reconsider their strategy. Then again, since it's mostly a US pricing issue it might not be causing the same uproar in Europe that it is in the US.

It's better than WR, it's AW (All Weather), equivalent to DA* in this respect.

- DA* lenses are said to have a "weather-resistant and dust-resistant construction to enhance durability for use in rain or dusty conditions"
- AW lenses are said to have a "dustproof, weather-resistant construction effectively preventing the intrusion of dust and water to the lens interior"
- WR lenses are said to "feature a simplified weather-resistant construction designed to minimize the intrusion of water and moisture into the lens barrel" (please note the "simplified" and the absence of reference to dust).

Ah sorry, I either missed the AW label or did not know that the drip/dust proof means AW. Thanks.

Wow. If this goes for under $1500 I may be adding it to my list of gear I'm planning to grab come wintertime.

Interesting speculative question over on dpreview forums: 560mm: Is it a 400mm f4 with a dedicated 1.4 TC?

The numbers would indicate the possibility of a 400mm f4 with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter. (which extrapolates back to potentially a soon-to-be released 400mm f4 (without the 1.4x group)?
All speculation, but this may be the first in a line of white-bodied HD coated lenses for Pentax.

I think this lens is a good addition the their line up. However, I think it is naive to think that this will be an "affordable" lens given the jumps in DA* prices.

Also, I must say, I am a little disappointed from most of the rumors. Are they solid additions? Yes, I believe so. Will it draw people away from Canon or Nikon? Nope. There really isnt anything unique to Pentax anymore. It was bang for the buck, but MAP killed that notion. The only things unique to Pentax are the FA limiteds, and even those lose charm when looking from a value point of view.

People said that Ricoh was going to come after Canon the same way with imaging as they did with business machines and printers. But I have not seen anything real bold, headline grabbing, aggressive etc. Solid additions, yes...but nothing that will take them out of single digit mareket share. Just very risk adverse, content behavior.

If someone wanted to, they could calculate whether the hood is for an APS-C or FF image circle.
