This is some kind of nonsense.

No it is not. It was actually very well said. I bet there is a lot of people who agree with him, like me for instance.

It is hard to find a thread about a new Pentax product here without posts after posts of whiners, unbelievable! Please jump ship and stop annoying the rest of us.

I am glad that some people are more worried about taking pictures and using all the good things Pentax cameras have to offer than to compare specs with your spec obsessed friends at the corner coffee house. It is your technique and talent that make 90% of a great picture! That is what you should be whining about in case you need more of it!

HD coating looks promising.
560mm is currently out of budget. Hopefully within a year there will be ~4000 units available. Time to save fund.

Not much different in K5ii/iis. I am ok with discont' model.
and no FF as expected.
They should have called it SMC+ or SMC* rather than HD.

I am willing to accept that English may not be your first language, but I for one have no idea what point you're making.

Well I guess each of these announcements will give pleasure to someone somewhere but I think they will only make sense when the whole of Photokina is over and done. For example, we don't yet know whether Canonikon and co will announce new and more powerful APS-C cameras. If they don't, then the K5II may look much more of a canny move, a holding operation not because of some insufficiency but because the whole camera industry is hinting that high-end APS-C is finished and from now on, it's FF. Such a move will be driven by profits and not by there being something inherently wrong with APS-C, imho. Crazy maybe but that's business.

On the other hand, if the main players do announce new high-end APS-C models then Pentax may have some awkward questions to answer. The #1 question for me would be whether the future of Pentax is really being decided not by new technology but by its availability. If the main players can lock up new sensors for long enough, then smaller outfits like Pentax are shut out of the high-end and cutting edge and their future will lie much more with the broad middle, the K30 level. In time that would shake all the way down to the kind of lenses offered too. No more semi-pro 1500-buck offerings and premium primes as there would be no point in them any more. No need for new flash systems because at that level, a few third-party ones will do.

There's also been nothing about the K-01 and XS lenses. A dead duck? Another awkward question, I'd have thought. How come Pentax have only a very small toe in the higher-end m4/3 and APS-C mirrorless market which seems to be storming ahead. A very odd one to be missing out on not just slightly but completely. Unlike FF, this isn't a market locked up by two huge players and with a high entry cost because both players have established also huge service and support networks and a vast array of specialist lenses.

Anyway, for me these announcements have put some dots on the paper but as yet they aren't joined up. I don't really buy the idea that it's all there but Ricoh just need more time. The only time is now and Ricoh did their due diligence. Saying there isn't enough of it is really saying that Pentax, even as it is now, is spread too thin and something has to give.

I am also a Pentaxian. I do care about Pentax and hope Pentax will strong again in this market.
Sometime you may disappoint when you see Pentax is not really an aggressive company which compare with other brand.
I understand someone will happy to hear praise to Pentax
But why they always against negative comments

I'd guess they will make sense a lot, sometimes next year

Why do people insist on comparing to Sigma lenses? Sigma is the lens manufacturer with the worst reputation on the planet. In the internet early days the were web pages dedicated to the crap usually labeled SIgnificant MAlfunction. I wouldn't touch them with a pole....
Just like Honda. Those cars were crap in the early 70's.

It has become part of the modern western culture. Everybody has to agree with each other.

Sigma days being the crap brand is over. Sigma 100-300, Sigma 30mm, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 105mm, Sigma 70-200mm are all excellent products, with ranges that are not even covered by pentax atm. They fill an important niche for secondary brands (primary being canikon) like pentax.

Wow tha 560mm lens is expensive. Way out of my league.
Well, there's always the Q-K mount adapter, the long telephoto option for the rest of us.

No SD UHS-I Support?

I really wanted to see UHS-I support and a more substantial buffer on the K5 successor. No flash upgrade either.

The K-01 only made its debut this year.
And there are plenty of general K-mount lenses to use,
including pancakes like the DA 21,
before any more XS lenses emerge.

I think they have been done with that since 1975!

But with regard to screw DRIVE lenses, one might note that this year's DA 40mm XS and the DA 50mm f/1.8 both fall into that category.

And I hope there will be more. It works, it's fast, and it keeps the size, weight, and cost of the lenses down. Maybe they can figure out a way to make it quieter.
opps.--- I had anticipated that they would dump the screw drive before now but apparently the issues with early SDM's discouraged that.

I hope they keep support for it in their bodies--or at least the high end bodies for quite a while yet. It could make sense to drop it from
their low end bodies at some point to make the low end even lower, but obviouisly they can't go there without rationalizing their current
line up of lenses
