Following Fontan's Viagra joke with one of your own? I see what you did there.

This may well be the funniest comment ever made here at PF. I have not laughed this hard in a long time.

I know, that cracked me up too. Err...Allison may not think it was funny when that happened . But its true - my first wedding I had a K200D, lol, and the uncle of the groom had a 5D mark 2

Well, I am glad that someone finds humor out of this situation...but it is real and it happens almost every weekend. Most of the time it is just serious amateurs who never leave their camera at home (so me at everything else I go to), but it is embarrassing. I actually don't want a two FF kit, but I want a nice aps-c and a FF to make the most of what both sensors have to offer.

Bossa, are you trying to tempt me to follow in your footsteps and move over to Nikon...I am feeling the need to get tooled up.

I don't think you're whining, for a photographer earning money shooting weddings I think you're being more than loyal to Pentax sticking it out this long.
Thanks!! Pentax just started following me on twitter, which I think is interesting. I think it is great that they are finally trying to figure out who their pro shooters are. And I do love my lenses...but I want some assurances of the future.

K-x owner thinking twice

I have a K-x and upgraded my lens collection to a Sigma 50-150 and a Tamron 17-50, as well as the two kit lenses. I am invested in Pentax. I shoot a lot of my kids' activities including dance, theatre and sports. The AF of my K-x has rarely let me down. That being said, I have the upgrade bug and have saved about $1500 toward my next camera. Honestly, I'm not sure the K-5 II/IIs are a significant enough of an upgrade for me (no flames please, I KNOW the K-5 is more camera than the K-x). I was really hoping for MORE and smaller focus points and predictive AF-C as well as higher pixel count for cropping. I can live with the pixel count as long as the AF is a significant upgrade; perhaps reviews and experience will show it is. For now, I'm holding on to my money until I see what comes next.

Edit: I see it has the Select-Area Expansion feature. Presumably this means predictive/improved AF-C?

I really don't know about this.

Many K-5 owners complained about AF, and now that it is supposedly fixed to what it should have been originally, Pentax thinks that all those who complained will plunk down $1,300 to buy another one.

I really don't know about this.

Do your pictures really live and die based on improved AF accuracy? Really? Is that all that is wrong with your work?

This lack of low-pass filter thing I am not so sure. I doubt you guys will be able to tell the difference on your laptop screen, or on you iPad when shown side by side.

Is this like a bridge camera that shuts up all those AF complainers until they come out with FF?

Why not call this K-3? It is as if they are admitting that this isn't much of a step up . . .
strikes me an in interim solution for a new product that isn't quite ready. Many have whined about the AF system and pointed to it was
the weakest of the subsystems of the K-5----so will we shut up and enjoy it????

The real news of the press release is the orphaning of pre K-10 digital camera bodies. Don't know if anyone is still using these
early camera bodies or not, but one can guess that no new screw mount lenses will ever be made....

Allison, I'm not sure I can follow up on your offer in public. ;-)

But yes, that does highlight the situation nicely and no, I was not meaning to have a laugh at your expense. Please forgive me.

All I know is that unless there's a better option about to drop that we don't know about I'll be going over to the dark side completely.

What makes a pro isn't the gear, but the eye. A pro can shoot better weddings with a P&S than most amateurs can with FF. You hire the brains and the aesthetic sense, as well as the personal skills and experience; not just the camera.

Is he saying that the 645D is the worst MF camera? I'm not sure what this announcement means. Will there be a K-3? A K-1? If the weiter is correct, why would Pentax have a slighlty better camera with less than 100% view?

Sorry you got that all wrong. The terms pro' or professional just means that you make a living from what you do - you get paid for it. It has nothing to do with how good you are.

Yup, to the point it seems negative to the customers. "Better AF" while it's the biggest request from K-5 users, it was also just one. I sure hope they did think about "what else can we put in the K-5 II?" but probably gave up given the time constraints.

I really really hope the wait was worth it. They had 2 years worth of R&D after the K-5; I hope they didn't splurge it all for just the K-30 and K-01.

To all whiners: historically Pentax spreads the news when Photokina approaches. What happened in 2010:

- Sept. 9, 2010: Pentax K-r and DA35/2.4 presented
- Sept 20, 2010 (one day before opening of PK): Pentax K-5 and DA18-135 presented

So my guess is that Pentax will announce the following one day before Photokina:

- 645D II
- K-3
- K-3s
- DA* 16-70

Edit: the above is in line with what the Australian Pentax spokesperson was implying (he hinted at the 24mp APS-C sensor when asked about it).

Asahiflex you're an extremely sensible poster but I wonder if Pentax will / could do this.... It would be a great line up if it does

Thanks, I'm 100% convinced it will happen this way. Because where did all the R&D go? They have been working on the K-5's successor since 2010 (!) so there's no reason to only announce a very modest upgrade over the old K-5. I see the K-5 II's as a way for Pentax to have more choice for the consumer with regards to APS-C DSLR's.

Don't you know Pentax made SDM-only lenses in the past, but still kept on with screw drive lenses? What seems to be abandoned is the in lens dual AF mechanism.
Besides, people who couldn't afford to upgrade from their *ist-series camera would really spend $$$ on new lenses? Maybe they'll buy the $7000 560mm

Asahiflex, I'd say that's ahead of schedule. They already announced all the lenses from the roadmap...
