Pentax Down Under (Tasmania)

I live in Hobart pop about 160,000 and there are two main camera stores in town. Talking K10D/K20D to the owner yesterday and asked which dslr was their best seller. Answer, K10D and at least 2:1 against Canick. They don't even stock any K100 series gear but will order on request. Reason being that K10D is what is wanted.

Considering that the Australian agents CRK must have been taking lessons from Pentax UK, ie minimal promotion etc this was a very heartening conversation.

Wow, a fellow Tasmanian Pentaxian, haha.

Care to name the 2 stores? These are considerably different sales figures to Launceston!

Wow. CameraHouse in Launceston doesn't do those figures (as far as I'm aware).

Wow, interesting. Guess that's why they had plenty of Pentax-mount lenses in stock last time I was down there.

Hi David & blwnhr

I hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread temporarily, but my wife & I will be visiting Tasmania for the first time between the 10th & 21st November this year and are looking for suggestions of places to see whilst we're there. I'm not into white-water rafting or bungee-jumping etc but am mainly interested in photographing beautiful scenery, so if either of you have any suggestions of what we shouldn't miss, perhaps you could send me a PM ?

Best regards
Richard

Cradle mountains - North West of the island (give it at least 1 week to hike)

Mt Field National Park - 3 large waterfalls only 45 minutes drive from Hobart.

The whole island is really beautiful. Near the city of Hobart, wine glass bay or port arther or mt wellington are all good photography spots. I have planned it but did not enough time to squeeze all the trips into one

Enjoy your time there

Cradle Mountain, you can get some good shots if you set aside half a day.
Stanley in the North West is always nice.
Port Arthur in the South East is both interesting historically and photogenic.

That being said, it doesn't matter where you go you'll find somewhere lovely to photograph.

To continue the hijack, I just got back from a holiday in Tasmania, and I had near zero decent shots at Cradle Mountain. I found the wildlife in the area to be amazingly prolific if you are into that sort of photography, but the scenery wasn't special.

I agree that you can go almost anywhere and find something to shoot in Tasmania, beautiful place. And its so small, driving takes no time at all.

Port Arthur is very interesting, do the Ghost Tour at night, even if you aren't a believer. I certaintly don't believe in ghosts, but it was still fun, you got a feeling of what it was like to be a convict in the cold dark back in those days.

I think I should start up a Skeptics Tour, follow the Ghost Tour around and debunk the stories.

Agree with the above, add Strachan and the river cruises, rain forest walks etc

Of course if you don't want to get out of bed early or retire too early in DLST, you'll miss the magic light

A very nice part of the world David,
Later this year we have a choice of either Tassie or Gold Coast, having already been to the GC
twice I'd love to see the scenry down there, Although my two young kids may win the vote not having been to the GC.
