Wonder if THIS one's held together with double-sided tape...

Are they displaying it on photokina?
It's for Canon/Nikon/Sigma as far as we could see. The reps at the stand today said it wasn't coming for Pentax, but they didn't seem to know much so we'll have to double-check.

Indeed, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is fantastic.

This new 35mm f/1.4 is a full frame lens and thats its target market.
Ahhh thanks. didn't realise the FF aspect.

This lens looks heavy and big and is designed as a wide angle full frame lens. It will also be expensive. There is really no need to look at this lens with Pentax offering APS-C cameras only.
There is a new Sigma lens, but no news for Pentax users. The Sigma 1.4/30 already fills the gap.

Pentax does not offer any large aperture wide angle lens for its system while ALL major manufacturers have presented full frame 1.4/35 mm designs lately - (Canon is on the way).

Yes it big, fast full frames 35mm lenses are. It will be cheap if they price it around $900.
I will buy one

At 13 elements, it's certainly going to come with a hefty price...

We already have a great AF fast normal prime. It's called the Sigma 30/1.4. I have one and love it. This 35/1.4 is monster size in comparison
I thought the corners sucked on the 30/1.4, is that not so? I've always heard that the center was amazing, but the corners falloff really badly.

Also, that 35mm is indeed massive.

I got a Zeiss ZK 35/2 for less than $800. It's an amazingly good lens for those looking at this focal length. Just saying...

My theory is that Pentax is going to rely on third-party lens supplies when they launch their full-frame. So it could be that they're telling Sigma to hold off for now because then it's time to make the announcement, new lenses will have to accompany it

I like this new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens. I also like the 30mm f/1.4. But I'll make do with my Sigma 28mm f/1.8 that cost me only $399 new two months ago. I think my lens is roughly the same size as this new 35mm.

Gee, Adam. I think you've a bit of jet lag here. Pentax tells Sigma not to make a lens (at least for now) that Pentax owners would buy? That sounds like a poor business deal all the way 'round!

I agree, though, that we will have to depend on third parties for modern designs and materials in FF glass. I've ranted here a bit that Pentax should be helping those third parties to put more products in the marketplace for us. I'm certain that Pentax would like to keep the lens profits within the fold but that strategy rather stumbles if they don't have the products on offer.

Sigma have been smart and realised that you don't need ultra sharpness to capture bokeh - So what they've done is optimise the design to give a great centre where it counts.

Unfortunately this has meant the 30/1.4 has gotten some bad press by reviewers who don't understand the joys of shooting with shallow DOFs

You can of course stop down the 30/1.4 and the corners are fine. But then the 30/1.4 isn't the really the right lens for wide DOF shooting. I love my 30/1.4 and like my A50/1.2 it's almost welded wide open.

When I want wide DOFs and/or corner to corner razorness I use something else. Horses for courses.

I've seen great pics with the 30/1.4 and I'd love to have one. I chose the 35 ltd as my standard prime but the decision was tough. I understyand the 30/1.4, as well as suffering from poor corners, has significant barrel distortion, QC issues and AF issues. As my camera (K200D) doesn't have AF fine-tuning without hacking it, and anyway has a poor AF system, the Sigma would have been a very risky choice. Many others will be in the same position, and lens choices shouldn't be risky, hence my original comment.
