New Sigma 35mm f/1.4 HSM

Looks like Sigma have a new 35mm lens in town-
Product | SIGMA GLOBAL VISION

Also looks like they have a new look, which I think looks pretty nice.

Wow, looks nice. Perhaps we finally have a good, AF, fast normal prime... I also like the new look of the lens, much more modern than older Sigmas.

It is huge though, and will probably be at least as expensive as the 85/1.4. I suspect I'll be sticking with my DA 35 ltd.

We already have a great AF fast normal prime. It's called the Sigma 30/1.4. I have one and love it. This 35/1.4 is monster size in comparison

Will it be made in K mount? Tamron hasn't released any lately...

and nice look too. Very minimalist, but then again, it makes the lens more... intimidating. )

It looks as if they are trying to smooth down the textures. As much as I like the tried-and-true "crinkle" finish found on the Sigma EX lenses, I don't mind what I'm seeing on the new 35mm 1.4 HSM. In fact, I like it a lot.

Now, I'd like to see how well the lens performs! With the exception of the Sigma 85mm 1.4, most of the fast sigma primes have rather disappointing corner sharpness at wide or even medium apertures. That is, if you go by the measurements served up by the likes of Photozone.de. Going by the MTF chart, this new lens is far and away sharper and contrastier than the Sigma 30mm 1.4 - Of course, it's late for me and MTF charts mess with my brain.

New Sigma 35/1,4

Donīt worry. It will be without K-bajonet - as any new (2012) lenses from Sigma.

Indeed, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is fantastic.

This new 35mm f/1.4 is a full frame lens and thats its target market.

Hopefully they won't forget pentax or it will become a no choice brand and pentax will price it lenses even higher. If they do i'll take my legacy glass to Canon the next time i buy a new camera.

In the same Sigma Global Vision programme, the 120-300/2.8 surfaces again too. A previous version was announced at Photokina in 2010 as well, but contrary to initial rumours this was never made in Pentax mount. I wonder what Sigma's take on this new "vision" is in terms of lens mounts, hoping they'll include Pentax.

I have little hope to find out more at Photokina though. I tried to find out about the previous 120-300/2.8 at the fair two years ago, but I could not find a single person on the Sigma stand that seemed to know about this. Most were just pretty hostesses whose talents did not include extensive product knowledge, quite different from the knowledgeable (mostly) men at the Pentax stand... I might try asking again around at Sigma this year anyway... After all, even if they didn't have much to say, the girls were nice to talk to...

I find 30mm nicer on APS-C then 35mm so it's missing my boat a bit. I've the Sigma 30 though great lens but the build quiality is decent but it doesnt have quickshift sadly enough, HSM would mean it has that function most likely
