That's all nice and well, but Photokina is a consumer show. If this new 360 degree camera is a scientific/industrial camera then they've chosen the wrong show to put it on display.

I assume the counter people at the show know what this camera is for and how it's supposed to work. Is this information on the web already?
Exactly. My. Point.

This was Photokina.

In my previous job I can see how this would have been very useful as well. I can also see how they would have gladly paid a decent sum of money for a solution that worked. For the record, when I say decent sum of money, this is a business that didn't bat an eye spending 750,000 a year on cutting the grass.

I don't disagree, but in their defense, they had a lot of space to fill and it does look interesting.

if it were part of a CCTV setup, perhaps it would make sense. But like the others said... Photokina is a consumer-camera show....

so unless it's also available for DIY home security...

Pentax already released their version of this based on the DA 40 LTD. Of course it costs more than $69.

Is it an insult to you when Pentax comes out with any product that is not specifically for yourself? Do you feel insulted if they come out with a new pair of binoculars or spotting scope or rifle scope? Should you be their only targetted market?
Well said.
As crazy as it sounds, some people believes that all Pentax problems will be solved by halting all R&D, except for few, very specific projects; and that every small project sacked would free enough resources for a competitive FF and a complete FF lens line.

At first, I thought it was a yo-yo camera. :Hysterical:
That would be interesting with the CMOS shutter roll.

Yep - don't forget Pentax is still in the CCTV business... plus others... although I can't imagine the use of a 360 degree rifle scope

Do people laugh when companies like GM, Honda, and Audi come out with these crazy far-fetched concept cars on display at auto shows?

Yeah, I guess they probably do laugh.

But those concept cars get people talking. "Hey, did you see that Jeep?" "That's ridiculous!" or "Wow, I like that shift lever, that's a really good idea!" (Or more often, "How do they expect a person to actually fit there?")

Sometimes the concepts go into production with minimal changes. And sometimes they have some components and ideas that are really terrific and end up in regular production cars.

I'm ALL FOR innovation. R&D shouldn't just follow the tried-and-true recipe book.

I want to see MORE like this.
