Your basic premise is incorrect IMHO. A FF camera from Pentax would not be 15-20 megapixels (wot would be the point?) nor would it have the specs of a K20. it would surpass the K20...ie 100% veiwfinder and god only knows what else!

You make it sound like Pentax want to compete with top-tier cameras, such as the D3, A900 or 1Ds... Which they will never do unless they want to go bankrupt really quickly.

It's not price alone.
It depends on the features.
If it's a real killer thing, I would pay more than 2000 Euro for it.

I was almost ready buying a Sony A850, but then I decided to wait one more year. 1500-2000 Euro would be nice.

I'm curious: are there any weather sealed Sony/Carl Zeiss lenses? They don't seem to make any claims about this on their sites. Even Canon's teleconverters are advertised to be weather sealed.

Another Poll

ok, I saw Richards post showing market percentages and how most people buy cameras under $2k and how most ff cameras are above this. So here is how much would you pay

(lets say roughly 15-20mp beastie with mostly similar specs to a k20d)
I use my K20D in Av mode and focus manually 99% of the time, so if I ignore the specs I typically don't use I can pick up full frame Pentax cameras all day long for between $25 and $50. Only problem is that I can't change ISO and have to scan the results.....but 15~20mp is no problem.

it will be 5-10 years before FF reaches the $2500-$1500 marks. FF is a pro feature, so bodies with FF will have all the other bells and whistles that go along with pro gear.
I'll take it you don't research non-pentax cameras very often. Google tells me there are currently three full frame cameras on the market all at or under $2500:

Sony A850 - $2000
Canon 5D Mark II - $2500
Nikon D700 - $2400

And all three of those are pro-grade build quality. A plastic FF K20D should theoretically be even cheaper. After all, the actual APS-C K20D was cheaper then than Nikon D300, Canon 50D, and Sony A700.

One word: Samsung
Between the green line issue and high ISO, I'd say Samsung has been more problematic for Hoya than a benefit. Look at the new entry level camera with a Sony sensor, people are questioning the K7 mainly due to Samsung's contribution.

Well ok, so this post is 2008, but here in the uk we are so behind everybody else, what do you expect, a reply in 2008, certinly not, we have to think about these things a little, so you have to wait for our reply. Well if you could not wait, you should have deleted the post, right!
How much to pay, well this site seems to be swomped by the ugly word Dollars, we don't do Dollars, we don't even do Euros OK we deal in Pounds Serling, the lowest value currency in the world Ok. So a full frame Pentax for us, bearing in mind I have several full frame film cameras already, is about £500.00 Pounds Sterling Ok

I wonder what additional full frame cameras will be around two years from now

I wonder what additional full frame cameras will be around two years from now that don't exist today? I'll guess Two more Sony ,Two more Canon ,Two more Nikon and another Leica. I'll guess 7 more Full frames that do not exist today. I won't include Pentax till 2015. Hoya thesedays needs to find some tech giant to partner up with pentax cameras division. An opportunity no one company has publically jumped at.

Is $2,000 the magic price point?

I think so, I like it.

Will Pentax offer a FF K 24mp dslr to start? Will it be Sony made and offer inbody shake reduction ?

And for what money? D3x $7500 or a850 $1999 ?

Its January 31st 2010

Now 11 months left in this year for a 645D in 2010 announcement, including its price, full specs, its new lens line up redesigned, tweaked, optimized for digital sensors. 645D is a camera pentax said they'd make in 2005 and its 2010. 5 years and counting...

http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Kodak-Announces-18-Megapixel-Image-...Pentax-645.htm

At this rate it'll be 2015-16 before we see a full frame K Mount dslr.

Didn't notice it was a 2 year old post (not exactly expecting that)....but that does show just how far off anti-FF people have been (and still are) in their price predictions. Does anyone seriously think there won't be a $1500 FF DSLR on the market in two more years or less?
