It's a shame that Hoya let him go, but good to know that he's still working in the photo optics business. 'A man goes where he is appreciated' they say. Last I heard though he was still a consultant for Pentax, meaning they could still employ his services on a per project basis. Either way, Tamron makes K-mount lenses, so it's not hard to imagine that some day soon we may find a new piece of Hirakawa glass attached to our cameras.

This patent describes how to manage a wide aperture open, wide-angle<=>standard zooming and built-in S/R at the same time.

Hmmm, it seems A007(24-70mm F2.8).
Unfortunately, no Pentax-mount lens is planned.
Tamron -24-70mm F/2.8(Model A007)

Ahh, the Tamron 24-70 VC??? Great lens... very fat... but doing very well against Canikon 24-70
