It seems that Hirakawa-san is working for Tamron now.
I found Hirakawa-san's name on Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication #2013-45039.
This was issued by Tamron.

It's a shame that Hoya let him go, but good to know that he's still working in the photo optics business. 'A man goes where he is appreciated' they say. Last I heard though he was still a consultant for Pentax, meaning they could still employ his services on a per project basis. Either way, Tamron makes K-mount lenses, so it's not hard to imagine that some day soon we may find a new piece of Hirakawa glass attached to our cameras.
