The DAlimited24/1,7 would be fine for me too. Generally speaking, there is a serious lack of fast wide angle primesIMO.

fully agree! A 24/1.4 would give us a 35/2 in 24x36 terms - a combination I love...

Indeed. I think this is one of the biggest holes in the line up.

IF Pentax is indeed moving to FF, I expect Pentax to plug a couple holes in the APS range but not all and certainly not the most high end ones or difficult to get their money back on. This 24/1.7 lens would be a very big surprise. Don't wait for it.

Yes, I agree with 24/1.4! It's the reason why I was doubting moving to Pentax. It didn't have fast enough wide angle primes. The 14/2.8 is too expensive, and for that price would rather have the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6.

No FA lenses are WR other than the D FA 100mm Macro WR.

I second the request for a 24mm. Though personally I would rather like it more to be a DA*24 f1.8 or f2. Pentax needs a weathersealed wide prime. The shortest DA* is the 55 - nowehere near wide for landscape or WA enthusiasts, and all their UWAs - the 10-17 and 12-24, are both non-WR also.

If they're gunning for WR as a selling point for the brand they better seal up the wide end too

(and sadly the DA*16-50 falls short in performance compared to the DA15... which is even slower)

+1 - makes more sense, it could be made significantly more compact even if covering FF.

Doesn't make sense at all!? The FOV is much to narrow compared to a 24/1.X...

24mm wants = this:

Nikon 24mm f/1.4

Big, big filter, $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Kind of silly for the DA series, but not FF. For APS-C the DA's 15mm and 21mm are perfect. Too fast and they get big an bulky and with WA the whole bokeh thing is less interesting and necessary.

People say they want wide and fast without really knowing what the major compromises are: very large, very expensive, lots of distortion, flare and hood issues (solved by the DA 15mm), etc.

If FF comes Pentax has a stellar but over-priced DA lens line-up. They should take the 15, 21, 35 Macro, 40, 50 (2.4) and 70mm, WR all of them and drop the production costs with plastic barrels and mounts, knocking 25% of list price. Same for a WR re-vamped 16-45, 18-55, 50-200, 55-300. 50-135 as well, and the 18-135 because, why not?

Keep a low-end K30ish entry-level, AA battery APS-C DSLR and we're done. Forget the whole Limited this for APS-C. Such a concept is price dead in the next 3-5 years.

a 135...

Hasn't been ANYTHING in that range for 25+ years...aside from zooms.

Cheers,

Plus the Pentax macro line actually discourages a lot of people out there. Nothing quite like watching a Pentax camera and lens combo search for a few second under less than ideal lighting

But on aps-c a 35/1.4 would make a nice parallell to the 50/1.4 on FF, allthough it wouldn't give the exact same DOF, I guess. I miss a nice, fast, compact, normal prime for aps-c in the lens lineup.
