Based on what you said - the -3EV is a huge step up from the k-5 anyways. And if they fix the low-light front focus issues that affected some of the original k-5's, then that's fantastic. And if it's a lot better at tracking (speed and accuracy), then I'll gladly ignore the large AF sensor for all the improvements.

I can't wait to see proper tests on the k-5IIs - if it's that much sharper, that's fantastic. It'd be great for the k-5II to top the APS-C sensor list again.
EV-3 - OK. But I don't shoot in the dark. I'm interested in accurancy of SAFOX X. And nothing else.
I don't care speed in the dark, I want 99% of accurancy.

My Fellow Pentaxians, Don't be sad about the focusing points cause the truth is we did not really check the difference where the focusing point is compared to K-5. But rather the functionality of the unit and the photos it took. We were like 100+ Pentaxians trying it with different lenses (Old & New). So it was like 5 minutes each tops. Maybe in the next event we might have it again. I could ask my fellow pentaxians here when they visit the plant next month.

Also, regarding color accuracy it is not yet calibrated to match the real colors. I played around the AWB while shooting at the Phottix Model and the results where different from my K-5. See below for the subject. i was using CTE with my K-5 and K5IIS and the color result was off from K-5Iis (skin tone a bit brighter and bluish white). As for the AF accuracy it's spot on for stills. Hopefully it the same for moving objects.

Also, Pentax marketing said K-5ii/s might be available by end of Nov or Early Dec in Asia.

While hopefully SAFOX X is even more improvement over IX+ in decisiveness and consistency in AF selection (if the cross type lands on two subjects, it should consistently select the same subject to provide AF reliability) - there is an expected limitation based on the large AF points.

So my personal expectation is that the AF response is consistent, while providing better low-light accuracy and avoiding any front/back-focus issues under tungsten lighting.

To further clarify consistency - sometimes when aiming at the same point, the AF system in my k-x will choose the front subject, and other times it will select the rear. It would be my expectation that it selects one consistently so I know what I'm getting. And maybe an option to change it

@Ken - did that model come with the event, or did you bring her yourself

Accurate under what lighting conditions? For what sort of subject? For what sort of distance? With what type of lens? At what aperture setting? In which AF mode? Etc.

It would be hard to claim '99% accuracy' for any camera or lens, unless everyone is working from the same testing framework. Which rarely happens. Just look at all the camera review sites and blogs - everyone tests AF differently. What's 99% for one tester may be 75% for another.

Does the K200D have focus adjustment?

The Nikon D4 delivered 12 of 12 images in-focus. 100%.
I find it salutory that even a sophisticated AF machine like the D4 still finds the need (in its user manual) to provide a series of cautions to users about where AF may fail :

This advice would of course apply to any camera. So 99% accuracy is unreasonable in the real world, especially if users may sometimes not recognise the limitations of the technology.

Nice one rawr, but Pentax users don't usually read their camera operating manuals... so any cautions about AF limitations don't apply. Probably many find it easier to post any difficulties encountered online hoping for a quick fix from the many experts on this forum.

It's about learning your instrument/tool. Engineers can only do so much with hardware/software. The person themselves is supposed to have a brain, so they should use it to learn to make the instrument/tool do its bidding. I think this is the disconnect. You want a camera to pick settings and focus for you, why not get it to direct the scene and build repore with the models. Engineers should be working on that...

You've gotta learn the system, and use it, not just expect it to work. I feel modern cameras are almost too easy to use, and its making any effort appear barbaric! I'm quick to manual focus because I have eyes and know what I want. My camera only has an autofocus system thats guessing based on contrast and algorithms.

What about Europe?

My understanding is that launch in US is today? Or at least just around the corner.
