Couldn't agree more Norm. I leave all that 'number' stuff to the engineers. My litmus test is how the photos look and how the camera feels and works. That's why I'm a Pentaxian! Love my K-5 and the photographs it takes!

Personally I don't consider a 30x20 at six feet to be a normal viewing distance. Right now I'm typing on a 29" diagonal monitor.

If you'd like to come over I'll show you my panorama of half dome.

Damn, I hate when I mess up like that. Ok, if you want to see the score do it yourself... I guarantee you the edges will be comapratively softer on the FF, but then the corner numbers on a 3000 lpih APS-c won't be as sharp as the borders on a 4000 lpih FF, just because the the lens will resolve more on an FF sensor. It all get so complicate , but I suspect that with a 16 MP APS-c the borders would be softer than on a 16 MP FF. But really it's so much about splitting hairs, as far as I know, no one has ever put the time into actually testing that. it's not like it makes any difference at all to the casual shooter.

It's ridiculously complicated to figure out, and you're not going to get anything out of it more than likely even if you go the extra mile.

And on my 27" monitor, I can absolutely guarantee you, you'll see no difference between a 24 MP D3200 and a 16 MP K-5 file. It was a bit distressing however, that I had to go to quite a bit of work in raw, to match what came off her camera in jpeg. Sometimes the work made the K-5 images better, but only a very small percentage of the time.

You'd have to go way above 4700 pixels wide to see any difference at all, even if there was a difference in IQ, which there isn't.

What's the max resolution of your monitor, and how far do you sit from it, typically.

I have two, one's 2560x1440 and the other's 1920x1080. I sit about three feet away. Come to think of it the high res monitor might not be quite 29". The low res monitor is much larger (42", embarassingly enough, long story), but I can see the pixels.

I agree completely, there's no real difference oversampling 4x vs oversampling 6x.

Between some APS-C and some FF shooting some types of scenes.

Some older CCD FF's aren't as good as newer Exmor CMOS APS-C's, even at 3200 ISO. And some scenes (eg brightly lit but using high-ISO) may not reveal any advantage to FF or APS-C.

So we can only compare the latest APS-C sensor with older FF sensors now? (and CCDs to boot?). seriously, the extent you guys go to stack the deck..

how about the exact same sensor technology, APS-C vs FF. at anything other than base ISO?
