Relax. Things will be fine. Pentax have been making cameras for quite a while. The 'classic' K-5 was a good camera and the new K-5's will be great cameras.

For every problem report with any camera, there are many more no-problem experiences that you just never hear about, because who posts on forums etc when there are no problems?
+1.I still have my K-7 (Aug 2010), and have had no issues with it, my sister now has my *ist DS (May 2005), and likewise no issues.

On topic, very much looking forward to more K-5 II samples, told by a local Pentax rep recently that Pentax Japan informed them the key improvements are the well reported low light AF performance, the jpg performance, and the low ISO picture quality (which is what I am interested in). Third hand information I know, but this is the rumour thread.

FWIW, I wrote a small article on the "Pros and Cons of Omitting an AA-filter".

Not bad...

By removing the AA filter you can definitely see a difference, and I'm sure its documented in another post some where in this forum, but I assume the K5, and (K5 II) image quality will be the exact same.

I compared it to the D600 D800 and 5DIII and 60D 7D and D3200 a NEX 7 and a FUji X Pro 1. You just have to ask, does anyone make a bad camera these days... for 1:1 crops from the raw, they are all incredibly detailed and accurate images. I'm starting to think you have to find other things besides the basic image to differentiate. All those cameras produce excellent images. Did anyone actually find a camera that produced a bad image. I could see differences, but I could also see, that different cameras did better in different parts of the image.

OK I found a bad one, the canon Power shot S90, don't buy that.

Best and most unexpected image after the D800... the Olympus OM-D E M5. I'm not sure if it's actually better or they just nailed the exposure.

The K5 IIs does very well, despite the fact that it is slightly over exposed compared to the others, so in some places it's lost detail. In darker areas it's much better.

Blow these images up to 49 inches...( the size the K5 image would be printed at 100 DPI )and there's almost nothing to chose from between them.

You're right. It's pretty scary how much detail can be hauled out (under studio conditions). The OM-D has the benefit of the lovely Oly 50 macro, which is unbelievably sharp.
Given Adam's K-5 IIs pictures in real world conditions, it will be interesting to see the comparisons in the field.

Cost, and flexibility for the task(s) at hand are starting to be the main divisors.

Compared at lowest iso, the K-5 IIs shows moire in the classic profile head above Mickey, while the D800e does not.

Is it me, or does anyone else notice a small difference in the image quality when comparing the K5, with the K5 II?

That can be said if any of the 15 or so cameras I looked at. The problem those days is that you're paying big bucks for small differences. If anything, these comparative images say "work with what you've got, you can get it done.". You can pay a lot for a little. I happen to be in the market for a camera right now, we need a k-5 or better body. SO I'm looking at a lot of images.... I haven't seen anything compelling enough to make me switch brands. But you have to consider switching brands is a lot of work. If I was currently was the owner of any of the other cameras I looked at, I don't think I'd be switching to a K-5 IIs.

My guess is the biggest reason for switching brands, is you're tired of what you've got. There are actually very few times in life when there are compelling reasons to switch. Most of my issues with my Pentax kit can be fixed by a Sigma 8-16, and Tamron 17-50.

Sometimes there is something you "have to have". But is it need or obsession? I need to buy a camera, my old k20D is killing me in high contrast situations with it's poor low light performance. I wouldn't even know this except the wife i shooting most of the time with a K-5, and we can say without a question of a doubt, she is getting keepers in situations where I get nothing. It may as well be a K5 IIs. With all those Pentax lenses it's a logical choice.

To my eye, the K-5 IIs equals the D600 in resolution and shows no more moire. Impressive, though diffraction in the 85/1.8G @f11 might be degrading the Nikon's resolution, while the FA50/2.8 peaks @f8, according to Yoshihiko's test. If further tests give similar results, I would not switch systems for the D600, but would for the D800e.

To me the K-5 IIs looks quite a bit better than the K-5. Check the fine detail the hair of the monotone line drawings above Mickey. You might want to increase your browser magnification to see it, but the difference is clear.
