I dunno--- Amazon.com is offering the same with a release date of May 5, 2008 and they have some K10's at $689 and up, if price matters.

I'm hoping that Amazon's projected availability date is pessimistic. I have a K20D pre-ordered through them but may order elsewhere if somewhere else gets it first. My goal is to have it for a late-April vacation - if I can't get it by then, I'll cancel my preorder and wait a few months to see if I can save a couple hundred. I can just use my K100D on the trip but I'd really like to have the K20D!

I have not pre ordered yet, I am kinda waiting to see who has them first, then I will swoop.
The real advantage of Ritz is that they offer that extra warranty / insurance so if I drop it in the river it covers it.

BTW, I see that Beach Camera now has the K200D available for preorder. If the K20D shows up there as a preorder, I'll probably place the order with them - I trust them to ship it faster than Amazon! Or, leave it preordered in both then cancel whoever doesn't ship first...

I can't speak for other places, but with Samys camera, it's a $100.00 deposit to ensure you get one of the first.

If buying online, it's no different that ordering anything else that's backordered, etc. You place the order exactly the same, the only difference is that they won't charge your card nor (obviously) ship the product until they have it in stock.

So far, it sounds like Pentax may actually meet their mid-March target date, which'll be terrific - that'll give me a few weeks to learn all the new stuff (coming from K100D) before heading down to Florida and going through a few thousand photos.

Well, I went ahead and pre-ordered; got a call-back request to confirm. Turns out I am around the tenth to do this. When I told the rep I was surprised there had been so few, he said, 'Well Pentax is sort of second-tier, most people want Canon or Nikon.' I said Canikon is a fightin' word to the Pentaxians......we had a good laugh.

Where did you pre-order from?

Someone not paying close attention to Pentax forums might still have little idea about the K20D's image quality and we haven't seen any "top tier" reviews yet. Things may change after that. Certainly the sensor is far from "second tier".

BTW, Beach Camera now has the K20D for preorder, at the usual $1,299 price, free shipping, etc. I canceled my Amazon preorder and went with them, they ship very quickly and are relatively nearby so it usually only takes a couple days for stuff to arrive from them.

I put in my order Jan 17, guessing the name would be K20D :-) They are expecting cameras end of Feb, which sounds promising :-) This is in Sweden.
