Probably a few reasons:

a) Pentax needs ways to differentiate consumer and higher end models
b) Most users of a consumer, entry level body don't have the knowledge or interest to adjust AF
c) Compared to Nikon & Canon, no other entry level body has this ability

If they implement this already in the K200D, who would buy the K300D??? This is one of those "upper level" features that will appear in the next generation "lower leve" cameras... I think....

OGL are you talking about lens backfocus and frontfocus adjustment, or about AF algorithm/speed adjustment?

Maybe the AF is so accurate that, even better than the K20D and 1DMkIII etc., it requires no adjustment at all! ;-)

my friends tried K200D at Moscow Photo Expo yesterday. really faster than K100D.
accurate. various lenses. with and without SDM.

i'm talking about AF adjustment menu for correct BF/FF. like in K20D.

You can always ask Pentax Service center to do the adjustment for you. Apparently, K10D also has calibration memory for 4 different lenses but only accessible by Pentax Service.

Is THAT what the "AF Area Test" settings are? See this thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/3158-k10d-service-menu-af-adjust.html

NOTE: don't mess around with your firmware unless you're willing to pay the ultimate price!
