PMA@CES & CP+ coming up...

Hi All,

I see Pentax Ricoh are exhibiting at both PMA@CES (Jan 8-12 2013 2013 International CES® Exhibitor Details - PENTAX RICOH IMAGING AMERICAS CORPORATION) and at CP+ (Jan 31 - Feb 3 2013 List of Exhibitors | CP+ CAMERA & PHOTO IMAGING SHOW 2013)...

I wonder if anything new will be displayed?

Apart from the obvious...wait for it... Full Frame... I would love to see a mock up or production version of both the DA100-400?? and 1.4X convertor shown on their lens roadmap....

Hopefully they will also soon release the 560mm for sale?

Cheers,
Gordon

Yay! IMHO this means the latest we'll see any new Pentax cameras is in 4 weeks (first day of CP+).

Can't wait for the numerous PF threads to start thrashing real products instead of hypothetical ones

An announcement/mockup of an FF camera in development would be good, but for immediate announcement I'm hoping for:

* a 645D II that will make the D800 look like a toy
* a really cool below-K-30 camera that will be an even greater mass market success than the K-r was.
* a 16-50 replacement with a convincing SDM replacement (there is a lens in this range on the road map, so this isn't too far fetched)

More New Stuff?

Hi Gordon, thanks for the links!
I agree, it would be great to see some new products, in addition to your "Wish List" I'd add an 80-200mm f/2.8 (been needing that for a long time!), a fast 24mm similar to the 35mm f/2.4 AL and possibly an entry-level ($500 USD) DSLR in APS-C format. Even if FF comes along soon by Pentax, the cropped format market is still huge and has some size, weight and price advantages that should attract new users.
JMO,
Ron

Agreed, these are exciting times. The current poll I started on the next camera members are after from Pentax has a pretty clear message. But I agree, it'll be great to look forward to the other announcements in the MF and entry level arenas. Lenses will have to be a considerable focus and hopefully there'll be a few announcements in this area. Anyone attending? Hope it's a good exhibition.

Don't expect anything at CES. CES is not traditionally used to announce anything other than P&S'. CP+ could see some announcement, but don't get your hopes up.

My expectations are for a new Optio that you build yourself from Legos or something. I'm not setting myself up for disappointment that way.

I'd like a 135-400 WR there. I'd also like a 20, 22, or 24mm f/1.8 there too.

Optimistic view: FF camera with 24-85 lens, 100-400mm, and 1.4x TC

Pessimistic view: 16-55 and 1.4x TC

We're much more likely to see a 24mp APsC than a ff. However I doubt that we'll see much at all camera wise

Please - release a DA* to replace the 16-50mm! As stated above, it could happen, because something like it is on the roadmap...

A 17-85mm f/4 is my best guess (or perhaps hope), to complement the the DA* 60-250mm f/4, which is a resounding success. Quite honestly, with today's and tomorrow's sensors, the many compromises that are apparently necessary in order to get a constant f/2.8 are simply not necessary. What more would someone need than a K5II/IIs and a DA* 17-85 f/4 for 90% of your needs???

Apart from lenses - I would be really up for a 17-85mm f/4 - I hope that there is news of some exciting new Ricoh cameras, since 2013 needs to be a Ricoh year as well as a Pentax one. I hope these will be at least in the super-compact class of 1" sensors, perhaps much more ambitious. I'd guess that at some stage we'll see a new Pentax flagship APS-C DSLR, perhaps an April or May release leaving the autumn/fall clear for more goodies.

Tell us how you go there - is the weather over there prone to causing traffic problems?
