Thats exactly why I won't be getting it. I'm getting a VF2 for my accessory port.
Don't count out the VF-3. While the resolution is not as good as the VF-2 it is cheaper and locks on to the port. It does the job fine for me. Just thought I would mention that.

Thanks, I looked at both, and the VF2 is the one I want

I recently bought the original Q to keep my slrs company, so this one isn't high on my list right now. But its a great looking camera, maybe my wife would want it . Lol

With the 500 dollar price tag, I'll take 100 off and get me a beautiful K-01 instead. No hate on the MX-1, love the design and all however I'd just rather pick up a K-01 which I am already planning to buy within a couple months. However I expect, like most Pentax products, for the price to go down, possibly 300 and I'll consider definitely pick it up over the K-01, that's if it goes down in a couple months before my buying time.

Nice looking camera and I hope this is a sign of where the Pentax/Ricoh partnership is going. Price seems a bit steep though, and not hotshoe. Also the name seems a little odd....I'd rather they carry the MX line into a full fledged DSLR.

Has anyone posted a visual size comparison of this next to a K-01? I don't really see the point of this camera. Yes, its good looking and great that its sensor is bigger than the Q's. But no hotshoe, fixed lens.. Doesn't seem all that impressive. And it costs more than the K-01, which can compete, at least in terms of IQ, with the best APS-C out there and can use a bunch of different lenses. As some have noted, this is not what they expected from a Digital MX revival.
But the look is good, and I like that it also has a tilting screen, slightly larger sensor than Q..

the problem is the sensor and compactness.

to put 24 mm lens to camera with bigger sensor (bigger than 1/2.33" like in super-zoom P&S) means the shorter range at the long end.
otherwise, the camera will be bigger.

MX-1 has SR, by the way.
My wife's Panny LX-7 has a 24 - 90 mm lens and 1/1.7" sensor. Nice camera.

Yea...I love that focal length range a lot more than the MX-1's 28mm-11X.
The Panny also has a f1.4 aperture.
The reasons to get the pentax Imho is the look and the swivel screen. But the swivel screen is a big selling point for me, more thanthe hotshoe. It's a toss up.

A step in the right direction for Pentax-Ricoh IMO.

Maybe next step will be the K-MX aka K-02? similar look as the MX with a K mount ILC body? APS-C sensor, smaller distance than K-01 therefore with a K-MX adapter to use the DA/FA/K lenses on it? The brass octagonal body will tug at the nostalgia buffs

Then after that the FF K-DLX?

The market will eventually decide - both in terms of price/value proposition similar to the K-01 and Q which now appear to be gaining some favor due to price reductions.

Ok, a new model, looks good but no surprise, just another addition to the one billion others already there, retro ? which part ? it doesn't even have a 'window', wake me up when you see a RF or look alike from Pentax !

PS. I still have high hope on Pentax, am happy with my K5 !

Have we had a discussion about championing digital backs for the old slr bodies?

ie.. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Kodak/index.htm

It's not as if it's a new idea, but heck. the film backs on the "K" series are all the same, as are the backs on the "M" Series, as are the spoties...

I want a sensor where the film plate should have been, batteries where the film spool would have gone. a touch screen on the back to play and delete sh1t, and heck one button on the side to select iso. that's it. How hard could that really be?

Some one make one already, Then I will give you piles and piles of cash to fix them to my film bodies!

/end rant

And they started it by calling it the MX.

Bastards. :P

I hate seeing the names of great Pentax SLRs like MX and LX being recycled on P&S cameras!
