Smaller is not always better. XZ-2, G15 and P7700 are bigger than 5N too.

I just did this size comparison. It's roughly the same height but 1 cm wider than a GRD. The difference is the bulk with the zoom lens and swivel LCD make the MX-I half as thick again as the GRD. But still much smaller than a K-01. The MX-1 is a compact camera.

PS. As for getting upset over the MX-1 name, there's no reason they can't use it across the board as their new 'retro series' designation - eg MX-100 or MX-R for an ILC and even MX-D for a DSLR etc. With new models, it'll go MX-2, MX-110 or MX-D3 and so on.
Thanks for the post a picture comparison....I am going to have a real decision over which to buy for my play around camera....for travel, walk around pics when I don't want to carry even the very small bag I use for my kr and 4 primes

And nowhere near the IQ either. In the case of the NEX, smaller is better.

With the 16-50 pancake zoom, the 5N is much smaller than that graphic indicates.

Is it just me, or is that link just a little deceiving with the NEX5R being located a bit further back? Or is it just acting up on my browser?

What my browser shows me

Your browser is acting up. Looks OK on my screen - even has the fake reflection under.

The same bad lens and the same bad sensor
The X20 has a different sensor than the X10.

"Using the same basic design as X10, including its fast 28-112mm equivalent F2-2.8 zoom lens, the X20 uses a completely new sensor, a 2/3"-type version of the X-Trans CMOS design used in the company's X-system cameras but with added on-chip phase detection AF."

Again, aside from the $100 difference, why would someone in the market for a retro-styled P&S opt for the MX-1 over the X20? The higher resolution articulating LCD, the brass plates?
The X20 has a larger sensor, viewfinder with info overlay, likely better AF, hotshoe, and more controls.

I'm not being anti-Pentax - obviously I use their gear - and the MX-1 is a nice-looking camera.

Not if you mount even a tiny lens like the Sigma 30mm...

I believe there's more to this. A ricoh version would be GR-V or VI with hotshoe and manual focus ring with the same sensor as the RX100. Now, if Pentax makes a MX-II probably the same as RX1. But this is just ME.

With the 16-50 compact zoom, which I use, it is only 1/2 inch longer...but the IQ and flexibility is in a different class all together.

Check out the size comparison. Compact Camera Meter

The NEX with the compact kit zoom very compact for an APS-C camera.
