Hmm this looks really tempting! especially for anyone looking at the Olympus XZ-2, Pany Lx-7 and the likes. Finally a competitive compact camera for when you don't want to bring your DSLR kit! :-).

p.s. This I think is a product that is designed under/post Ricoh/Pentax acquisition. I like the look of this camera, retro-esque but not too much so, a good feature set and a good zoom range. I would like a little larger sensor like the Sony RX-100, but form what i hear the Olympus XZ-2 is very competitive in terms of image quality against the RX-100, while having a similar sized sensor as the MX1. Plus Pentax engineers seem to have their noise algorithm down well. Looking forward to sample pics and comparisons!

Tilting screen though! Shame about the hot shoe, seems a big omission

According to engadget - approx. 500 USD - Pentax launches brass-bodied MX-1 point-and-shoot: 12MP with 4X zoom

Seems to be sorta the same price range as the G12. I'd buy this over the Q10, and get a Q if I wanted to do k-to-q adapting.

Wow! Isn't that their first attempt at a "photographer's compact" (if we don't include the Q) since the 750z? And with a relatively large sensor! I look forward to see how this camera compares to LX-7 and similar serious compacts.

From http://pentaximaging.com/digital-camera/MX-1_Silver:

1/1.7’ Backlit 12 megapixel CMOS sensor

Talk about a small sensor!

Not exactly what I was thinking of when dreaming of a digital revival of the MX...

It is small, but at least it isn't a 1/2.3! I was hoping for a 1" sensor to compete with the RX100, but I'd still take this..
