I think the Samsung is the only camera in this segment with better than F/7 lens on equivalent basis.

I.e. you'd get less noisy pics with the K-01 and the 18-55 lens.
I've made that case, myself. For most purposes in court, the ISO 3200 performance of the K01 without a flash is adequate. However, the size and interchangeable lenses seem to scare business owners off. The expense with a lens is more than with the high-end P&S as well.

I've also advocated going online to KEH and getting a used DSLR. So far, it hasn't stuck like the client who brought his LX5.

Wouldn't an EVF support and a hot shoe raise its price? The XZ-2's street price is $50 higher than the MX-1's launch price.
Well worth it!

I have my doubts. That is why I said "if." I don't understand what siize of the lenses has to do with it, really. You can use a wider aperture, but lower ISO than with APS-C, so you end up with about the same flash power needed.

Poorly worded, but you get what I am trying to say,

The flash should be strong enough for bouncing. These things are small but they are quite powerful.

Yeah, but not for everyone. Others wouldn't care about a viewfinder or external flashes, and go with the cheaper option.

$50 to have a hot shoe and a port to add a view finder in the future is not worth it. $50? Come on now.

The lack of external flash sync has been an issue for high end pocket cameras since the Olympus XA of 30 years ago prompted a cottage industry in modifying its flash units for pc syncs or hot shoes. All sizes | Adaptor Finished | Flickr - Photo Sharing! It would be nice to see progress
I never Knew about that!! Can we still get that done?

Yes...if they were not available, you could not use them.
If they were available it would be kind of silly not to. Especially the control ring.
Honestly, the hotshoe, touch screen and control ring are 3 nice items that i think most people would gladly fork over 50 bux for (judging by all the comments here and on other websites).
If the price of the MX-1 settles in around 100 bux less than the XZ-2, then it would merit serious discussion.

Quite often people pay more for extra features even if they aren't sure they will use them. I guess you can call it "feature insurance" where people don't know whether they value something until they own it and use it several times. You can always earn anther $50 but you can't add a feature to a camera after you buy it.

That said, I'n not sure the street price difference between the MX-1 and XZ-2 will settle around $50 as that's the MSRP on the first and a discounted price on the second.

Thats the million dollar (50 dollar?) question and a good point.
It is impossible to do a proper value evaluation until both settle at their street value. We may not know that for another 3-4 months.

I don't know. Most of the action these days is people doing it themselves. I've kicked the idea around, since I have several of the flash units (which went with several different XA/XA2 bodies). Adding a socket for pc sync is easier, but that probably belongs on another part of the forum.

Even a $100 difference might make it a tough to pass up for many in the market for this camera. I can't see too many people who are already paying the extra money for this level of camera who would not at least know why these features would be useful.
