Hope it will be 571$ in Sweden as the 360 is at the moment. Ridiciluous...

I like the swivel and the shoe. It is too soon to tell about the rest.

... My feeling (not professional opinion) is that buttons are easier to weather seal - via a simple O-ring - than switches are. Perhaps Pentax is indeed looking at weather sealing their flash system to match the ruggedness of their cameras? ...

The metal shoe is a welcome addition!
Yea!

Where's the battery compartment door? The original 360's on the right, and there's no photos of the right side (yet). If the left side has no door or ports in it, then perhaps this won't take a battery pack or a sync cord either (just like the old AF360...

As for metal hotshoes, I'm kind of ambivalent about them. On the one hand, they're usually considerably tougher than the old plastic ones. On the other hand, this just means that the point of failure in a mishap will move someplace else. You can only hope that it isn't on the camera body. However, being a flash frame user, I've wished for a metal hotshoe.

I can't wait to see the AF540FGZ II or whatever they'll call it...

Exciting times my fellow photographers, exciting times (and in the good way)...

I hope that dial is easier to turn than the one on my current-model 360 is. I have to really grab hard and dig in with a fingernail to get it moving.
I agree!

While they are working on the battery compartment, a battery holder would be nice. I can't count how many times I've fumbled to reload the AF540FGZ in darker areas and gotten one of the batts in the wrong way. Sigma's is worse, BTW, as the compartment does not have as readable an indication as the yellow label inside the Pentax.

Looks interesting. Metal hotshoe ftw the win. But I would love for there to be sync jack for using radio triggers. That way you don't have to fool around with little hotshoe sync adapters. Maybe there's one hidden on the other side, but I doubt it. Step in the right direction though!
Those are rarely included in low-end flashes. The only Canon flashes to have those are the 500 series and now the 600 series. Same goes for external power plugs.

BTW - I have the new Canon system and it totally sets a new benchmark for what a flash system should do. I look forward to seeing the Pentax replacement for the 540 - this new 360 looks like a step in the right direction.

Well, when a new Pentax LED flash system comes out for a new mirorless FF system, that will be a benchmark for what a flash system should do.

I'm not sure a LED Flash is that easy to do (power but specifically duration and power within a set (short) duration).
Led lights, camcorder/video type of lights though seem way easier to do.

Can't wait to see test performances from this little speed light

I am inclined to think that the replacement to the 540FGZ will come with an upcoming high-end body from Pentax - which of course, we do not know whether full-frame or not, but the sure thing will be: it's going to be "different" from competition!

yes you can use the AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ wirelessly for macro work - that is how I have done it over the years.
