I remember on the PDML fifteen years ago many lamenting that there was no professional body (with good AF and 5 fps) to use with the 600/4... At least now the body is good and easily accessible, while a pro body then would have costed a fortune. And we have yet to see how the 650 really performs in the field. I have an A*600/5,6, it's very good, but I gladly swap some IQ for some more manageability, AF and better balancing for the weight.

In practice, the crop body is easier IMO.
Good points, but I think it's important to clarify (as you have done) the real differences when using a given FL on FF vs. APS-C. Too often this is overstated.

Absolutely. But it is done from time to time. The crop body advantages (because they are some) are almost always not taken seriously except by a couple zealots (not much better than trolls, really).

At $7,000 (US) I would guess Pentax may not have sold any until the lens is field tested or someone has $7,000 just to test the water.

I don't know if they sold any or not, but I would look for such information in Japanese - if I could.

As production figures are rumoured to be 500 units per month, I really wonder how they manage to sell 500 units per month

They produce 500 per month for six months and sell 500 per year for six years.

Sold in a few hours after being listed, at 10,800 USD even though some accessories are missing:

Pentax FA 250 600mm 250 600 F5 6 Ed If SLR Camera Super Telephoto SMC Lens | eBay

There are still people prepared to spend big money for Pentax long glass .

I stopped bidding on one a few years ago, short of 6k and it went for 7k. bad move.

Wow! that's a lot of money for a lens you can't get worked on.
