If you knew me "lazy" would not be a word you would associate with me at all. And in any case I'm going by what I'm seeing: on my own optics testing bench ( which I have used for years) and seeing that there is a discrepancy between DxO's results and my own makes me suspect there is something rotten in the state of Denmark.

So you didn't pay attention to the exchange with @aurele at all then...

I did, however I have no real experience with Samyang lenses - so I have no idea of their testing methodology regarding optical transmission.

My comment would have worked better if the Roll Eyes smilie actually worked...

Did they show off the lens at Photokina? It's been a while with no news.

Yes they did, actually the two announced versions: f/1.4 for still photography and T/1.5 for video (with de-clicked aperture ring).

1.4 isn't 1.2 though so as far as i'm concerned it's a 'no show'

Thanks Mistral, looks like b&h has 5 mount types already in stock, but Pentax mount is AWOL.

As for the 1.2 comment, I expect this lens to be potentially much more usable at 1.4 than my A50/1.2 @ 1.4. The lens design is so different, I'd be interested in the rendering even if it was an f/2. For example, the Samyang 85mm is one of the best (if not THE best) example of a lens that isn't spherically overcorrected (no rings on bokeh circles, nor "onion" effect) with excellent wide open sharpness (at the loss of stopped down off-the-charts sharpness like the others in it's class). A 50mm like that would be worth a look.

Mitakon showed an impressive 50 f0.95 though.

A review was posted:

Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens Review

Looks like the only information out there, beyond some happy customers at B&H. Has anyone found this lens in Pentax mount?

The review is a mixed bag - I'm curious why all the special optics if it doesn't seem to behave differently than a standard 50mm... The bokeh looks about normal in the test shots.

at the 18mm setting, vignetting reaches almost 3.5 stops in the corners.

Wow, that's a lot. I often add a bit of an artificial vignette in PP, but I prefer to have the choice and adding it doesn't involve the noise increase that removal does.

i guess, it's more aimed at videographer, because beside this possibility, i'm clueless why Samyang did this lens at this price. For less / same , you can have the proprietary 50/1.4 with AF in any brands.

The price would be justified if the performance was higher than the standard 50/1.4 (which is expected given the optics). I'm still awaiting more samples before making a decision.

Lenstip review is up, seems disappointing, especially in the bokeh section. I wonder what they were going for with all the extra glass - I'm not seeing it:

Agreed--quite dissapointing. Average sharpness, high distortion (compared to others), some of the worst spherical abberation correction I've seen in this type of lens, poor flare resistance. Not exactly a compelling option.
