Sharp, nice manual focus, aperture ring, speed (what? f/1.4 is slow now ?), yes thank you.
Might be a nice alternative to all 50/1.4 and /1.7 I already have
Hehe that's what I mean. So many 50s already out there!

T/1.5 and F/1.4 or T/1.5 and F/1.2 ??
if this one is like the previous Samyang then f1.4, if it's more like the old Canon 1.2 lenses, then it's a F1.2.

I think it's F1.4.

I've read it both ways, but the more recent stuff has said it's F/1.4. There are already plenty of great 50-ish-mm F/1.4's out there, both cheap and expensive.

Since the Samyang doesn't separate itself on light transmission it'll have to separate itself on price. I find it difficult to believe it'll be better than most of the other options out there.

Silly question : what is the difference between T/1.5 and F/1.5 ? It is the first time I see a lens labelled "T"

Just difficult when it is a manual focus lens. But maybe it will be Voigtlander Nokton quality, in which case, 300 dollars wouldn't be over pricing it. Their 85mm is an awfully nice lens -- when the shots are in focus. I just am not a manual focuser and so Samyang lenses are pretty much out for me.

Light transmission.

If you put a ND filter on a lens, or really any filter, the DOF remains the same even though the light transmitted does not.

In a perfect world T/1.5 = F/1.5. In the real world, you need to have a wider aperture to deal with coatings/lenses not transmitting 100% of the light. So F/2.8 = T/3.0 (or higher or lower).

The difference between T-stop and F-stop is merely the light that didn't pass through for whatever reason.

The "T" value are usually more used in the movie industrie, where you need to know how much light go the the film to be sure you'll have the image you want to create.

Does a Samyang 50mm f1.4 make sense? There are already plenty 50mm lenses out there, some very affordable and still good enough, with full AF and everything. And manual fast 50mm lenses are under $100, at least for Pentax K.

It doesn't make sense for me.

It looks like it could have great bokeh and be sharp, though, so for some people it would make sense (depending on price of course).

Heck this could be $150 and make it into a lot of people's kits, or it could be $500 and not make sense for many people.

I was going to be all over a Samyang f1.2....a f1.4 doesn't do anything for me because they are a dime a dozen, well not quite, but still.

If it is very sharp wide open, then yes.

Most 50 1.4 lenses are known to be a bit soft wide open.

That seems Otus sharp!!

Absolutely, there's a market for such lens at a fraction of Otus cost!
