One of the reasons why the Samyang lenses are so well received and spoken of is because its cheap.
It won't be the same when its got AF.
It will just be commensurate with what it is, probably a bit cheaper than OEM and maybe sit a bit lower than Sigma/Tamron in the price scale (if not the same)

I don't think AF would work very well with the ƒ1.2 lens mentioned in the topic anyway. Or would today's technology make it work? That would be awesome though, no more fidgetting with 3rd party shims and screens.

I think AF would need a totally different design. Being manual focus only allows more freedom when designing, and that also makes it cheaper (easier).

I wouldn't mind AF on an f/1.2 lens. Even if phase AF doesn't cut it, contrast AF will nail it

CDAF does change things indeed. Imagine no more fidgetting around with 3rd party screens and shims, which don't even work that well, imho.

But Samyang already has some expensive offerings. The Samyang 24mm f1.4 costs over 600 euro. The new 16mm f2.0 is over 400. The tilt-shift close to a thousand. Considering these are very heavy lenses with no AF, oftentimes with poor distance scales,.. thats not super cheap. And Samyang also makes some really bad cheap lenses, like those odd telescopes and mirror lenses.
What they need to do is pick a strategy where they want to go and stick with it. Adding AF to the expensive line would make them much more competitive. (though, I know that TS lenses and AF dont really go together very well) AF for Pentax is also probably the easiest one to add.

I wouldn't discount Samyang for being cheap, their designs really do hold up. Atleast the 14mm sure does. I have the Samyang 14, the Pentax 15, and previously the Pentax 14. The Samyang is by far the best of the bunch, sharper wide open than the Limited at 5.6. The only thing holding it back is the coating, which is not up to Pentax's SMC, and ofcourse AF. Its a big brick of a lens, but I am regularly astounded by the IQ, great sharpness, great contrast, minimal aberrations, and perfectly controlled coma, even the color rendering is quite nice. I probably use the 15 more often for its size, handling, and AF, but when I know I want to print big the Samyang always comes with.
I expect Samyang to get steadily more relevant, their aspirations of being the poor man's Zeiss are very achievable.

It's a vdslr lens. So no F1.2. Maybe T1.3

The low prices of Samyang = rather mediorce quality of inner parts of lenses, especially low quality of metal of apertures blades.
It's well-known defect when the apertures blades go to pieces.
The outer parts of lenses look not bad. But the inner parts are no good.

It was never cancelled. Samyang said on Face book it was not realising. So a Korean said something in bad English of what we don't really now what it means. People just assumed it meant de 50mm F1.2 was not on the roadmap any more. Later Samyang said that that was wrong, but without specifically naming a 50mm 1.2 for dslr. so It is still unclear like schrödingers cat. Is it alive or is it dead. It's both!

The thing about Samyang is that their lenses seem to perform really well wide open. Particularly the 85mm f1.4. That's assuming you can manual focus well with them.

Honestly I'm not going to purchase a non-AF lens at or above 50mm.
