24MP, big deal; give Pentax a good 24MP sensor and they'll use it. It "only" works until ISO25600, in extended mode, so either Nikon is more conservative or it's not as good as high ISO than the 16MP Sony sensor. But due to DXOMark weighing system, I'm sure it will come on top... and make you happy.

51 AF point, they had that for ages. Indeed, it's an improved version, and I don't know what kind of SAFOX would Pentax use. It would be the most difficult feature to match, except for the sensitivity where the SAFOX X has 1EV advantage.

Dual card slots, probably we won't see this one - because of added bulk. Whatever, for me it's at most a "nice to have".

Processor - what's the deal about it?

How about:
Build quality, superior with the K-5's body.
Frame rate (the unlimited kind, not "crop on crop mode, 12-bit RAW).
Buffer (how big is the one on the D7100?)
Quiet shutter/mirror operation (a real one).

Now I'm convinces you're not being serious. The MSRP of the K5IIs is $1299,95 whilst the D7100 is announced to be only $1200,-.
The K-5 II MSRP was $1200, same as the newly announced D7100. It was (wrongly) assumed the K-5 IIs will be in limited demand, so naturally it was priced higher. Anyway, the prices can be adjusted to market conditions, so I'm not sure what are you trying to prove?

What are the chances of the K-3 being equally or better specced at an equal or better price? This is a headshot to Pentax.
Yeah, yeah, the sky is falling - thanks, but I'm not running to the caves.
Beating every D7100 feature and still match the price it's indeed pretty much impossible. Making a higher end camera, however, is not.
It would be no different than the K-5 vs. D7000 (ignoring both camera's issues); they could compete then, they can compete now.

L.E. ogl, Clavius, nobody is stopping you to go for this new uber camera. Do it. Do it and don't look back.
Just don't stay here only to nag Pentaxians about how Pentax doesn't stand a chance, quoting random parts from specification lists and asking unreasonable things with no purchase intention.

[...] They (FF lenses that is) just turn into something diferent when used on APS. [...]
Maintaining the same shutterspeed, the larger sensor needs less exposure to capture the same information and thus the signal can in comparison be amplified without loss (i.e. a higher ISO setting can be used). To capture the same total amount of light (i.e. information) you therefore need a lens, which is one stop faster on APS-C. Additionally, as a by-product, you then also will obtain the same DOF. That's why size and weight for equivalent lenses is (nearly) the same. This turns my and your FA* 200/4 effectively into a 300/5.6. A FF camera with the same pixel pitch than an APS-C camera would allow for all the described "advantages". So why would one not want a FF camera, if the price difference of the bodies becomes marginal?

It also appears - finally - to have supplanted the D300S as Nikon's top-end DX-format DSLR. In fact in Europe at least, the D7100 is officially being billed by Nikon as its new 'flagship DX' camera, the D300S finally disappearing from the lineup, off into the sunset.

Will there be a D400 (placed between a $1100 D7100 and a $1500 D600)?

Seeing the price at which the D7100 is being released at I expect to see the K3 very close in price, which should mean a heck of a drop for the K5II/K5IIs.

You have no any serious arguments.
Try someday Multi-cam 3500DX and realize the difference between K-5's AF and Nikon. Or you will live in the world of your own myths and illusions forever.

If K-3 offers new AF system - better than D4 and D7100, it could be higher class. Yes.

The DPR preview says it has much improved AF:

"Compared to its predecessor the D7000, the D7100 doesn't just offer an upgraded sensor with a higher pixel-count. It also features a significantly upgraded AF system, with 51 AF points (15 cross type) as opposed to 39 in the older model. It shares these specifications, and the Multi-Cam 3500DX designation with the D300S, but Nikon promises the autofocus algorithms from the D4 which could, in part, explain the extended sensitivity range (with the D7100 able to focus in light as low as -2EV, according to its specifications)."
D300s could tracks tennis or baseball balls. K-5II is far behind.

Wait, it was about D7100 vs the 2.5 years old K-5? Indeed, Pentax has no chance to put a 24MP sensor, improve AF, change the processor and pretty much everything on a discontinued camera.
I was stupidly thinking that it's about what Pentax can do, with a new, yet unreleased higher end camera. My bad, now I understand.

Time will answer, not you.

To say honest I have only idle curiosity about K-3 and any new camera of any brand.

But, it's too LOUD claim about HIGHER CLASS of K-3. Without any proof.

If you know that K-3 has FF sensor, right - it will be higher. APS-C high-end cameras are on the same level.

There is proof: 3 > 5.

Indeed, time will prove you wrong.

Well, what's the use of a supermegahyper tracking AF with just 6 frame of buffer?

Is it only 6? I've heard of 12, but nothing official.

Anyway, the question is: to D400 or not to D400?

Everyone has their different needs, i need supermegahyper tracking and AF-C mode. I dont need fps or continuous shutter mode.
But its a bonus with good buffer though....

Is this enough official: Nikon | Imaging Products | Specifications - Nikon D7100 ?

I suppose it's to save specs for a later D400. If not, to me this camera is a sad joke. A great AF for continuous shooting with such a little buffer... what's the use?

The lens line-up is pretty complete.
But not quite and DSLR APS-C also has a decade behind it. Pentax has worked more towards this goal than anyone else and they still have plenty of gaps their APS-C lineup.

You seem to asume that most people want and would buy an FF camera. This is not the case. Most don't care about the size of the sensor and have no wish for lenses physically 50% longer for the same magnification ...
Yes, but like I said, those "most people" also don't buy lenses beyond the 18-55 + 50-200 combo they get their camera with.
