Heh, if the K3s were priced at around 1,200 there would be plenty who got a K5II/K5IIs who would be a bit upset. Of course if it were priced at that I might just have to save up and get one.

They'r just guessing. Probably K-3 FF or aps-c? D7100+D400? 70D+7D Mk II? those line ups will be way to crowded.

I'd doubt it'd be priced at $1,200. I'd fully expect it to be priced at $1,499 or $1,599 with the k-5II dropping to $989.

The K3 / K3s will:

- feature the 24 mp sensor (Sony?) found in the D5200;
- have AA filter removed in "s" version (that's obvious)
- have more focus points, finally, and god-willing
- have some modest, incremental improvements to the AF system
- have a couple of other little neat things, like when the level was introduced (into the K7); and probably focus peaking like on the K-01

In short, Pentax will release a very safe, modest upgrade to the K5 line in line with what we've seen so far. It will certainly be APS-C. I highly doubt we see FF in 2013.
K-3 and K-3s will probably feature the new 20 Mpixels Sony sensor. The current 24 Mpixels version suffers from crosstalk and this is the reason why K-3 was delayed and temporarily replaced by K-5 II.

Are you guessing this or do you know for sure? 20mp would be kind of "meh" (20 vs 16 is really a quite small difference - only 11% more pixels in horizontal or vertical direction) - except if it has even better DR and high ISO than the 16 mp sensor.

Agreed, but it also seems like a quick way to burn K-5 II buyers...
Not really a burn - the K-5II/s was offered up at 20% lower pricing from MSRP of the K-5 - the lower price is an acknowledgement that it is a mid-stream (same body) upgrade with some tweaks and improvements, but not a true next-gen release. They have also already run decent discounts since release. The next body will likely return to the 1499/1599 pricing with significant improvements and likely a new body design, while the K-5ii/s will receive an end-of-cycle discount. IF you buy a camera body at release always, always remember it is a losing proposition for your wallet! Sometimes it is worth it, sometimes not!

Because K-3 is probably K-5 II plus more. If I had just bought K-5 II, expecting it to be the flag ship for the typical 12-18 months duration, then K-3 comes out in 6 months costing just a little more in such short time, I definitely would feel burnt. I think it's realistic to expect the K-5 II have the shorter end of flag ship life cycle (like 12 months) because it's an upgrade to K-5, but 6 months is way too short IMO.
Well, April is 8 months and that will likely just be a press release, with the camera arriving in 1-2 months after that. It is fairly obvious that the K-5ii/s was an interim model - it shared the same primary model name, how long would you expect it to stay? Really, if the new model comes out so quickly users should be thankful - look where Nikon have left their APS-C enthusiast users with the d300s! A full 4 years without a replacement. The d7000 came out at the same time as the k-5, 28 months ago and still also hasn't been replaced.

This pricing scheme makes the most sense to me too - and is definitely not a burn to K-5ii/s buyers - that is typical price drop range for 8-12 month into product life for Pentax. There is no reason they won't return to the 1499/1599 pricing either - that is pretty standard fare for top end aps-c cameras.

So do you suppose any member would sell me a K-5 or K-5II (I doubt anyone would let go of a IIs) with a few thousand clicks on it to get into a K-3? And if so, am I facilitating the sale of a K-3, though I'm not actually buying one myself?

And is that good or bad?

With no manichean stand, i would find it very short a life if K-5II replacement came as early as april this year.
In April, it is time for the silver versions.
I guess only the announcement would be made in two months time, and the product availability would be as of June 2013. Wich i find a perfect timing.

6-8 months is very different from 2-4 years. There's nothing to be thankful about it especially for people who just bought K-5II/s. While it's 'obvious' K-5II/s are interm model, it is still Pentax's flag ship product in terms of their line up and I'd expect it to stay for at least on the shorter end of a flag ship product, which I'm going to give it a year. Either way we are going to have to agree to disagree. However, if I had bought K-5II/s during the holidays and then see K-3 coming in April, I'd just leave Pentax for good. (Luckily I didn't.) If they are announcing in April and shipping in late summer/fall, then that is not too awful.

So, it was bad that Pentax did a K-5 mark II in September instead of a "proper" replacement, but it's also bad if they'll launch a higher-end model in April?

Why leak it to a magazine when there was just a big tradeshow? I call BS.... It's just more speculation.

LOL! Btw. where are all the unhappy K100D Super owners who were offended by the release of the K200D?
