Well, the K-5 II is still essentially the same thing as the K-5, which is due for an upgrade in many areas. As great as the K-5 is, Pentax can't keep it around forever, especially now that Nikon's D5200 24mp sensor is outperforming the K-5's 16mp sensor.
Agreed, but it also seems like a quick way to burn K-5 II buyers...

Just a bit. Almost the same.

Anyway, 24 MP without AA filter is the killer.

So no K5III (ya, three[III]) and K5IIIs, or, maybe a "K5IIIseS" [K5III Special Edition Silver]...

Why? Seems like most people on this forum anyways thought the K5II was an interim step and a camera that corrected some of the cons of the K5. If some one bought the K5II because it does what they want what difference does it make if Pentax comes out with another model in 6 months?

Hang on a second... NEX-7R and NEX-F3R. Is that the Full Frame NEX? Dear Pentax, nice to have known you!

Edit: nope, it's going to be a budget model. Dang...

Edit2: The NEX-9 in September is rumored to be the FF version. Still before Pentax.

Because K-3 is probably K-5 II plus more. If I had just bought K-5 II, expecting it to be the flag ship for the typical 12-18 months duration, then K-3 comes out in 6 months costing just a little more in such short time, I definitely would feel burnt. I think it's realistic to expect the K-5 II have the shorter end of flag ship life cycle (like 12 months) because it's an upgrade to K-5, but 6 months is way too short IMO.

I think that anyone that did any research before buying the K5 II should have come to the conclusion that the model was not going to be at the head of Pentax's product line up for very long

Also, rule number one when buying anything is to buy something because it suits your needs at the time. Anyway, I would think the K3 would be a tier above the K5 II anyway - I doubt the price on the K5II will drop hugely.

Good catch. Makes sense - the base and the filterless option.

Predictable Pentax

The K3 / K3s will:

- feature the 24 mp sensor (Sony?) found in the D5200;
- have AA filter removed in "s" version (that's obvious)
- have more focus points, finally, and god-willing
- have some modest, incremental improvements to the AF system
- have a couple of other little neat things, like when the level was introduced (into the K7); and probably focus peaking like on the K-01

In short, Pentax will release a very safe, modest upgrade to the K5 line in line with what we've seen so far. It will certainly be APS-C. I highly doubt we see FF in 2013.

It's easy to say consumer should know better. But in the end of the day if the consumer gets burnt once, they will start looking else where. It's not exactly a good business strategy. If I were to upgrade my K5 to K5IIs because of removal of AA filter and more precise AF(that qualify as suiting my needs), but it's not worth the money for that upgrade if I knew K3 was coming out just 6 months down the road and probably will be better in many ways.
