So, it was bad that Pentax did a K-5 mark II in September instead of a "proper" replacement, but it's also bad if they'll launch a higher-end model in April?
And even worse, the replacement model is not even full-frame!

K-3 and K-3s will probably feature the new 20 Mpixels Sony sensor. The current 24 Mpixels version suffers from crosstalk and this is the reason why K-3 was delayed and temporarily replaced by K-5 II.
Has this sensor been announced for any new camera yet?

Yes that's a good suggestion as there must be a reason for the delay, and getting out a revised K5 was more than Canon or Nikon managed with the 7D or D300s, for those who are quite happy staying with APS-C. Most folks would surely appreciate 20 megs of quality pixels rather than 24 megs of dodgy ones if there is really a problem with the denser sensor. If anything, the problem is that the K5 and K5 II are so good that an upgrade anything more isn't the no-brainer it might have been a few years ago.

According to Photo Rumors, Sony are using it in their proposed a58 DSLT.

They should just give up, they can't please us no matter what
It was also bad when they discontinued the K-5 in August with no replacement...

It would be bad if they tried to please us by giving up (or not)...

Are you guessing this or do you know for sure? 20mp would be kind of "meh" (20 vs 16 is really a quite small difference - only 11% more pixels in horizontal or vertical direction) - except if it has even better DR and high ISO than the 16 mp sensor.
That the 24 Mpixels Sony sensor suffers from crosstalk is a fact confirmed by the test of many non-retrofocus wide angles and ultra fast standard to short telephoto lenses with symmetrical design (aka double Gauss).

That Pentax abandoned the "original" K-3 with 24 Mpixels Sony sensor in favour of K-5 II when they discovered, quite late during the development phase, how poorly the prototype behaved with some prestigious lenses (FA Limited) was indicated to me by a very reliable source whose identity I cannot disclose here.

That the new Sony SLT Alpha 58, supposedly announced on or before next Monday, will feature a 20 Mpixels sensor is an insistent rumour, probably true since we are so close to announcement -answer in a few days.

[Edit on 20th February: Sony Alpha 58 was announced today. It features a brand new Exmor APS HD 20.1 Mpixels CMOS sensor]

That Pentax K-3 will feature the same sensor is pure guess on my side.

But it could also be the 24 Mpx sensor from Toshiba that is used in the D5200, and which is better dxomarked than the K-5 II.

I don't want a FF camera as a replacement to the K5/ii. If Pentax starts making FF cameras then they HAVE to make them separate from their APS-C cameras. Just like Canon and Nikon. No DA lenses (with the exception of a few) will work with full frame so offering only one pro-level body as full frame would be a stupid decision. I'm looking forward to the new APS-C replacement to the K5. Hopefully Pentax get video right after all these years.

This is interesting news.. I was about to buy a K-30 later this week. But, with the release of this news, it seems better to wait a couple of months and let the K-3 become released thus making the K-30 dip in price even more! Hellooooo $500 K-30 hehehe

Should also make the K-5 Classic dirt cheap.

The possibility of annoying past customers by releasing a better product is a risk any company should be willing to take.

or they can release K-3 in April and then K-3 II in December and see how the K-3 owner react. It goes both ways

Damn, I just bought a Corvette Z06 and next thing you know they release a 427 Convertible - this when we all know the C-8 is coming out next September (I know it is. I saw the pictures on PentaxForums). Well I'm done. I'm outta there. Last time they burn me with a new model. And the C-8 isn't even built on a full metal frame.

[EDIT: OK folks - I'm adding a proper <sarc> tag].
