Faster, More Responsive 51-Point AF System
D4's AF sensor utilizes 51 strategically placed AF points that are designed to capture subjects as you choose: by working together like a net to capture moving subjects or for pinpoint accuracy. Use a single AF point to home in on the exact place on your chosen subject. Each of the 51 AF points delivers fast and accurate AF detection to an impressive low light level of -2 EV (ISO 100, 20ºC) with every AF NIKKOR lens - expect to shoot more smoothly at night stadium assignments, poorly lit indoor arenas, cathedrals, theaters and any other low-lit venues
AF Detection Up to f/8 D4 aligns its 15 cross-type sensors in the center to detect contrast for both vertical and horizontal lines with lenses f/5.6 or faster. The five central points and three points to the left and right of them in the middle line are compatible with f/8

As written on the B&H page under the Nikon D4 listing; and I'll more than agree with it.

That with ANY AF Nikkor lens the Nikon D4 focuses faster than any digital Pentax product made down to -2ev. Let me expand that one a bit further... That with any existing marketed AF lens mounted to the Nikon D4 - as long as it has a starting aperature that remains above f5.6; that it will also focus faster on a Nikon D4 than on any Pentax. That would include lenses which basically have the same spec for both Pentax and Nikon lens mounts - such as some of the Sigma lenses. Let me also add in - have to exclude the macro options on that one though.

The D4 was built around it's autofocus abilities.

But ease take a look at the price of the Pentax K5lls. Then compare those specs to the entry level full frame Nikon. IF Pentax ever does come out with a full frame; think that Pentax will be anywhere near the Nikon specs?

Given that the D600 is seen as having been deliberately "hobbled" to protect the D800, the answer could well be "Yes".

Just my recollection -- MFP IIRC came aboard around the time of the K-01 introduction and his posts felt very optimistic and positive. A few months ago his posts turned decidedly more pessimistic and negative. I was away between August and November so maybe I missed something, but that has been my feeling here for several months.

Pffft, Pentax could easily match that in a $1500 body, the only reason they don't is because they are mean or incompetent! Obviously Pentax has randomly placed AF points with zero precision

But seriously, I do wish Pentax would add more AF points and make them smaller, though the situation is nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be.

I think that pentax is just fine with AF, and what ever they are now working with(compred to big ones) older tecnique is just great. Can't beat D4 or D800, but for most it will be great. If they keep up repeating history of making a great bang of buck cameras.. Rest who think that it suck, can buy other brand that does not suck so much

As long as they do what they do, better IQ and reliable within it's limits I think they have a future. The biggest drawback for me would be no FF Nikkor 14-24 equivalent. I'm surer I would be happy with a Tamron 28-70, Pentax itself has very few lenses developed with DG and low CA designs that can take advantage of FF. I'm guessing if Pentax come out with an FF this year, it will be another 5 years before they have the lenses that would make them an option I could consider. The only lens I find at all attractive as an FF option on a Pentax mount would be a 31 ltd, and I don't own it. Even if they release an FF tomorrow, they are not an FF option right now, to many of my WA lenses are APS-c only. After trying out my Sigma 8-16, I'm thinking, Pentax has really lost ground in lens design the last few years. How many low end consumer zooms do they need? They really haven't released a decent lens since the DA* 60-250, unless of course you count the plastic fantastics.

As you wrote Normhead, lenses would be something next FF is missing, can't really trust 100% sure that my vintage lenes would be great on that thing...(don't own any FA limiteds either) but I'd love to find out. But we are lucky, because there is plenty of other lensmakers options too. Let's see.

I think there's plenty of lenses available. I'd like to get a WA zoom (the new Sigma 12-24 is WR IIRC) and a normal zoom would be nice too. I have a 25, 31, couple of 50 primes, 77, 100, 70-200, 150-500 that are already FF.

The 25 is only available used now but there's a lens for every need out there on the shelf. Some of them aren't Pentax.

Given that most mounts launch with 1-5 lenses, the FF K-mount already has a 4 year head start on most new mounts.

No it doesn't.

You forgot the physiotherapy costs you get from lugging around such a heavy camera!

I once asked Adam if it was possible to Unsubscribe from a single thread. It isn't. But your Reply reminds me that we can Ignore an entire sub-Forum - and now that all the FF threads are in one sub-Forum ....... Alas, that Discussion doesn't seem to be available in Options.

When did you ask?

Just to elaborate on ElJamoquio's answer:
See the " Unsubscribe from this thread" button in the bar at the top under the page navigation?
In the past this was an icon, now it is spelled out.
