Back on topic a bit, I'm visiting Japan this week for work, and found an occasion to stop by Yodobashi - a huge Japanese camera (& other gadget) shop. Pentax is relatively prominently displayed, and they seem to stock the full series of everything. That's, of course, not surprising, Yodobashi prides itself on having....everything in stock.
What was of note, however, was that I didn't see any physical copy of the new APS-C GR, much to my disappointment. Rather large displays, card-board displays etc. with it, an oddly, a much advertised Ricoh GR gadget bag - but no sight of the camera. Didn't have time to inquire the sales-staff, though
Got to play with the MX-1, man that's a nice camera. Two things struck me, however: (i) it's got a lens cap, which renders it a little less obvious as a "grab and shoot" widget, and (ii) it's somewhat bigger. While it feels solid and good, I can't help but wonder that either a bigger sensor in it (like the GR) or a more compact/pocketable form-factor....as well as an integrated-lens-cover....would help it in the battle with similar form-factor cameras from the competition. That is, if they want to sell it to the masses, not to enthusiasts.
