Merry frickin Christmas! How about that!

I chose the number 1729 because it's such an interesting number (it's the smallest number that can be expressed by the sum of two cubes in two different ways*). It's random that it turns out to be Christmas.

Who changed the calendar?

Hey, who moved Christmas to April without telling me?

With rumors floating around that both the Pentax APS-C flagship (i.e. "K-3") and Sony NEX-7 successor are being delayed to September, hopefully this means they are waiting for a new Sony sensor, one that is preferably better than the one in the D7100, which doesn't seem to be an appreciable improvement (besides pixel count) over the nearly 3 year old K-5/D7000/A580 sensor.

Pentax AF is 6-8 years behind and flash system 10 years behind its best competitors. They could catch up with these using the same sensor as that available today and it woud still be a remarkable breakthrough.
Waiting for a sensor with 1/2 half stop difference is a bad excuse, if it really is.

For a company 6-8 years behind, their products are surprisingly competitive. But if in your mind Pentax still is on the same level as D200 and 30D, nothing, no real product can change your mind.
By the way, I sort of agree with the decision of waiting for a 24MP sensor which would be better than the current 16MP one.

Sorry, I don't see what point you're making here. Are you suggesting that if Pentax doesn't wait for a new sensor (and a few more months of R&D/testing), and releases right now, somehow that would improve the AF and flash systems? Or that a sensor has anything at all to do with AF or flash (all being physically independent modules)? Not seeing any connection here.

This is all speculation of course, but consider that if there really is a new better sensor coming in a couple of months, and Pentax decides to go ahead and launch a flagship right now, the next full 1.5-2 year flagship cycle will be spent with 3-5 year old sensor technology, while all their competitors take advantage of the new sensor. Or, wait a few months, and get the latest sensor technology to stay at the head of the pack in terms of IQ, which is by far the biggest reason behind the success of the K-5 and K-x.

"while all their competitors take advantage of the new sensor" - not the same sensor, as Canon makes their own; but we should indeed keep in mind that APS-C flagships are long overdue, and most likely won't use the same "old" sensors.

In any case, the most reasonable theory (IMHO) is that Pentax postponed their APS-C flagship because they weren't satisfied about something, probably the sensor. I would not want Pentax to make products they aren't satisfied with

Who said Pentax postponed anything? The rumours of an announcement in April/May were about an entry-level camera.

K-5II(s), announced on September 10th, 2012 is to last at least one year.

Who said they didn't, or that I'm talking about some K-5 II replacement?

Hi, I am new here and I am reading this thread right from the start. I am Sony user and I have found this forum looking for some info on Pentax K5IIs because I am willing to change system after many issues with Sony. I was really excited about K3 rumours and I was hoping for 24Mp sensor, better AF and high ISO (signal to noise ratio).

K5II was my love at first sight - ergonomics just blew me off. Few weeks passed and after couple of visits in my local store to play with Pentax K5II I noticed some drawbacks - poor buttons quality compared to my entry level Sony (especially AF switch and 4 way controller) was not much issue, I'm still bit worried about AF because in local store it's hard to simulate any real action and main reason I would pay that much for K5IIs was to have best in class APSC body. Here is where the trouble starts...

Body, body, body, boring... K5II is really awesome camera, but whole Pentax system lack good entry level primes - to be honest even all those legendary primes are so old (technologically) that it would be really hard for me to invest in those and not in newest Sigma's. Check Sony DT 35mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 price and reviews - I bet you would be surprised. Flagship 16-50 SDM is not so good, and my favorite when it comes to focal length 50-135 is not that much better. Resolution is fair but cannot compete even with old Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8 IF Macro. There is SDM but as we all know - it's not noticeably faster than screw drive (check Nikkor 70-200 VRII how it should be done).

Pentax seems like very unstable company now - - not much is happening in terms of lens, it does not have straight body product lines. No one knows what to expect in future. K-30 is a really good product but K-01 was just one horrible idea imho...

I am still waiting for Photokina 2013 - if they will announce something that pleases me regarding Pentax future I will take a shot with it. If not - Nikon D7100 is the closest choice after K5IIs for me.

Just my opinion.
