Pentax is DOOMED...

Steve

Ah, so that's the reason why everybody insists on keeping offtopic. LOL!

I don't think Pentax is doomed; they can survive if they really want. But it just seems like they have lost all will to live.

Don't worry, they're alive and kicking - and they won't stay quiet for long.

Soon, maybe later - but I think the year will not pass without some good news

I dont think that Pentax is doomed, but they may not play the role on the professional marked that they used too long time ago, or that we hope for.

Maybe not...but is that such a big deal as it concerns us, ie the high-end hobbyists? I know there are pros that frequent this board but they do quite well either with Pentax as their main system or as a supplement to their FF systems. But if I want to capture the biggest chunk of the ILC pie, I could focus on the non-pros, the hobbyist, the prosumer without delusions of being on the sidelines of the superbowl.
If Pentax had:
  • In your face advertising with hot chicks and hard bodied male models wearing cameras around their necks and not much else. Nikon has ashton kutcher...why couldnt we get megan fox or mila kunis?
  • complete line up of WR primes and zooms that included both small/slower lenses as well as bigger real fast lenses. Also quick shift.
  • top of the line flash, autofocus and view finder
  • Class leading APS-C sensor
  • 3-4 levels of DSLR (i am not including medium format because I am just talking about what the average prosumer/hobbyist would purchase)
  • Maybe a APS-C mirrorless with a new mount with a high quality, non-kludge adapter that would offer full K-mount functionality (not replacing the DSLRs above, but supplementing them)
  • 5 year warranty like Nikon
Notice how i did not mention full frame? Who here would not be happy with those?

Lol, or to adapt Raymond Chandler:

"It was a Pentax. A Pentax to make a bishop kick a hole in a stained-glass window."

Anyway, one APS-C DSLR and a couple of lenses this year won't be doing more than treading water, which in this game probably means sinking. So I hope there will be more than that in 2013, at least in the arena of APS-C to MF, because for Pentax to stay credible I think there needs to be.

Who said they'll only have one APS-C DSLR this year?
